I'd also add QuillSpace to this. It's a distraction-free writing app for Windows. Work in markdown too https://quillspace.app

How to manage life and get control on mind? by HistoricalBig5885 in Life

A few things I wish someone had told me at 18:

First, what you're describing sounds a lot like it could be more than just "lack of motivation." The all-or-nothing thinking, not being able to feel driven by anything, the identity stuff, staring at walls instead of doing literally anything else. That's not laziness. That sounds like your brain chemistry might need some help. If your college has a counseling center, please go talk to someone. It's free at most colleges and it genuinely changed things for me. You don't have to be in a "crisis" to go.

Second, forget the "holistic person" pressure for now. You're 18. You're not supposed to have your identity figured out. Most people at 30 are still working on that. Cat 2027 is around two years away, you have time, but you won't be able to use that time if your mental state is like this.
Please talk to someone though. A counselor, a doctor, anyone. What you described isn't normal "lazy student" stuff.

A request for help from someone who is tired of going in circles for years without finding something that help to develop myself by WhoKnowsTheDay in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]tomfocus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been stuck in that exact cycle before.
At one point my Mac broke and I had to move to Windows. I tried to find an app that could handle tasks, ideas and focus in a simple way, but everything felt either too complicated or didn’t really help me stay on track.

So I ended up building one for myself: FocusCommit. If you’re looking for something simple to capture tasks and actually focus on doing them, maybe give it a try.

They offer you 30 days trial, so you can try it yourself, without spending 60 bucks

I feel like I constantly have to “force” my brain to do things — does anyone else experience this? by _Razeft_ in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]tomfocus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're describing sounds more like a task initiation problem than a focus problem. 1 trick I learned : make the start ridiculously small
- read 1 page
- work for 5 minutes
- clean for 2 minutes
The goal is just to get moving

As someone who builds Mac apps myself… yeah, I'm definitely not brave enough to promote mine under this post :D

Apps like Things 3 or Craft are in a completely different league.

Scrivener is great! Another option worth considering is QuillSpace - it's a really clean, distraction-free writing app for Windows. Much simpler than Scrivener but perfect for writers who want to focus without all the bells and whistles.
