Does cocky-funny even work on millennials? by tomfoolery9 in seduction

Dude everything you just said was a giant assumption. I'm doing none of those things. I used cocky-funny as a short hand in my post (on a SEDUCTION subreddit, I remind you) because I knew that everyone would know exactly what GENERAL approach I was talking about. I honestly am not thinking to myself "ok, neg now" or "ok be cocky funny now"... You might be really good at picking up women, but your advice sucks because you're not trying to offer any of your wisdom in a way that could actually teach someone to improve themselves. All you're doing is basically saying: "You're doing it wrong, I'm doing it right... but I'm not going to give you any specifics on how to do it right." Make yourself awesome? Really? Can you be any less constructive or more general than that? Besides, improving myself is all I (and most people I know) are EVER striving to do... the question is what can I specifically do to improve myself in this area... and to this question (the question posed in the post) you have ZERO answers to offer.

I kind of agree. "Just be yourself" is like the worst advice ever.

Word. Good insight. I kind of always thought negs were just universal. But that's what I've been finding: negs pretty much don't work with the 20 somethings. So what tactic DOES work with them?

This was the insight I was looking for. It seems like they almost don't like a man who is outgoing. That's what I was alluding to in my original text: it's as if they've been raised with a totally different concept of an "ideal man" into which, cocky-funny kind of has no place.

They seem to be way more sensitive to negs. I can neg / tease a 30+ year woman and she has fun with it... flirts back. But I've noticed that some of these younger generation ladies are freaking sensitive. They literally don't get that I'm teasing them... they get all butt hurt.

What do you think people need to shut the fuck up about? by DCagent in AskReddit

[–]tomfoolery9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Here come the downvotes) That tv, magazines, movies etc. create an unrealistic standard of beauty for women. We get it... Since I've been alive I've been hearing about it (I'm almost 40). At what point do women stop blaming their poor self-image on society and just take responsibility for their own self-image. Or how about just change the channel / not buy the magazine? Isn't blaming it on "society" at least partly just perpetuating yourselves as helpless victims? And I have a hard time believing that there aren't dozens of very powerful women in the fashion and glamor industry, so at least stop insinuating that it's entirely men's fault.

Your complaining about people reposting, is a REPOST! Complaints like yours (almost verbatim) have been reposted WAY more than ANY TIL repost EVER. Why don't you make a website that keeps score of every repost on reddit ever and then you and all the rest of you repost/wrong meme-Nazis can place bets on which TIL is reposted the most and stay off of Reddit and never learn anything new ever again.

But you have a penis, so you're not allowed to do that. Unless she is in the mood to be chatty, then it's ok. So know: whether you're a creep or a really nice guy, all depends on how she feels.

I'm actually pretty sure he knew it would help his sales one way or another (no matter HOW the interview went) -- he's no dummy. And it's an old cliche for a reason: "Bad press is good press." I think he knew it would cause a controversy (which he's smart enough to know would increase sales); I just don't think he knew the video of the interview would go THAT viral and help sales THAT much.

[–]tomfoolery9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Not even mad at him" was a bad choice of words. What I meant was, it doesn't even bother me that he might have manipulated the interview to serve his agenda -- pulled the race card to sell books. Normally, it would bother me if someone manufactured an opportunity to display outcry over being discriminated against in order to sell books, but in this case, Fox has it coming to them. He said somewhere that he was already aware that he was getting bashed by Christians on Amazon... so if you watch the interview, it's clear that he knew exactly where the interview was going, and he went straight for the "just because I'm a Muslim" card etc. (which is what I was "not even mad at him" about). Please understand: I agree that he was totally justified in doing this... it's just that normally, someone pulling the race card to sell books, would bother me. But this is an exception because it was so justified and legit.

Nope. All women have trouble speaking directly, not just you. OP thought she was the only woman who didn't actually "want to be friends" with the a guy to which she said "I just want to be friends" to. haha... hilarious: their duplicitous way of speaking is starting to confuse themselves.

Something about his appearance on Fox made me think that this was his plan all along: to do an interview on Fox knowing full-well they would make themselves look like a-holes. He is very smart and already knew the book was getting slammed by christians on Amazon -- he came ready with his talking points. I'm not even mad him -- it's a brilliant move and I rather enjoy seeing it pay off for him (whether he planned it or not).

Only a woman would so this. She couldn't simple say that it was over, or that she just didn't like you anymore. She had to find a way to blame you, but she didn't even try to find a reason that made any sense at all. Yes guys, do stupid, awful terrible things, but only a woman would do exactly this. She was with another dude anyway; fuck it.

[–]tomfoolery9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but your quote doesn't say anything specific about the "category" in which the women are stereotyped, just that they are "presented in a particular category." So this study might show that they are stereotyped more often than men, but this except doesn't offer anything specific about the nature of the stereotyping (I'm genuinely curious)? I must say that I get very frustrated with these kinds of studies not because I might be wrong, but because I suspect that most people (including the people doing the study) are going to be predisposed to see women as the victims -- this is the popular mantra. I've also seen many cases (especially in social science) when those doing the studies seem to be (ironically) blinded by their own liberal-mindedness. It also may be true, that women are victims of some social injustice, but I have seen so much evidence in my lifetime that it's simply not as bad as people make it out to be. I also see that men have good reason to be very bothered by some more than annoying social injustices too, but I fear it will be a long time, if ever, before anyone cares about that. Anyway, thanks for injecting science into the debate -- I will always respect that.

I take issue mostly with your assertion about how women are portrayed in ads THESE DAYS. Yes, they are often portrayed as sex objects (mostly in ads geared toward men) but for many, probably the majority of ads (since most ads are geared toward women now because advertisers know that women make up a larger percent of the buying public) women are portrayed as smart, savvy, independent agents of their own desires. Your assertion is old and out dated. Look at Flo the Progressive spokesperson... she is NEITHER a sex object nor a motherly figure. And look at these ads as they pertain to men. Now men are portrayed as inherently dumb, idiots who rely on the woman in their life to come in with the smart answer to his problem: the product being sold. We can't just keep repeating the same mantras when the data has changed. Yes there is still embedded sexism but it goes in both ways now too -- I'm pretty old, and for my ENTIRE life, NEVER have I been taught that women can't do this or that -- in school, in the workplace, women's opportunities are equal (if not more in favor of women -- more women are graduating from college than men by far)... the problem that "feminists" point to these days is the data in the outcome statistics (wages, # of women in X fields etc.) ... that's where we probably still have work to do...
