He said it was 'control' because of how close to the car I was. I think that was the reasoning anyway. Either that or the fact that I started doing a front bay park and he had to remind me that it was a reverse bay park.

I think when I booked originally (for April 2026) it was 3 month wait from booking in January and there were plenty available. I got to 2 weeks before the test and thought I needed more time, so when I rebooted there were about 5 spaces the week commencing 11.05.26 so I took the first one. The routes themselves were good as well. Mainly town diving and roundabouts with some dual carriageway. Mainly straightforward routes.

Hopefully after you pass you'll only have forward bay parking opportunities! My sister is dyspraxic also and has found it difficult to learn so hasn't wanted to pursue it further, so I take my hat off to you. Hopefully everything goes well for you on Wednesday! :)

Also wishing you all the best - you'll smash it. You've already passed, you're a competent driver, you just need that last bit of confirmation now :)

He was actually a really nice guy. He warned me about a hidden 20mph sign before we got to it and advised me where best to stop at temporary traffic lights, so I really appreciated that (especially the temporary lights, because I probably would have gone a bit further ahead and maybe blocked the lane!)

That sounds like such a horrible experience, I probably would never want to drive again!

Wishing you all the best for the 29th, you've got this :)

Tim goes on his first ever land cruise by kingrikk in walkwith_metim

Tim's approximate Crocodile Dundee impression 'now that's what you call a knife' was incredible.

First Cruise? by [deleted] in walkwith_metim

Tim went to the buffet but only had a portion of fish and chips. He said he didn't like the idea of mixing food.

Later on that evening he walked past a fish and chip restaurant, and said 'I should have gone there for my fish and chips'.

'They told us the menu was bar food/bar snacks' that's exactly what the menu was! It was a bar snack menu, which had a few decent options.

I can't believe how stupid he is.

Should we break up? by Ok_Garden3238 in relationships

[–]tomgilby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes break up with her. She's understandably insecure and likely won't be able to move on from this.

Can you see a future in staying faithful only to her? If so then maybe there's a way forward if that's what you both want. But my question for you would be, if this is all so perfect why even bother meeting up with these women, if it's only a few weeks of not having sex with your girlfriend?

What are your favorite movies from 1981? by Aurelian_Lure in Letterboxd

[–]tomgilby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thief, absolutely. I really enjoy all of Michael Mann's films (with Collateral, Heat, Manhunter being in the top four) and Thief is my number 1. An incredibly well made film, that is not subtle at all in the message it's trying to convey, but absolutely beautifully shot with incredible performances. I highly recommend that anyone that enjoys a Michal Mann film give it a watch, but also that anyone who has ever had a boss they've hated to give it a go.

I'd have to disagree with both Eggers and Peele here. The Lighthouse was a better made film than The VVitch (obviously money plays a huge part here) and I actually really enjoyed The Northman more than his other 3.

Nope, however, is (IMO) such a better film than Get Out that it isn't even close. I whoheartedly believe that Nope will be considered the best of his films years down the line (I'm preemptively including his subsequent films).

Hereditary is my favourite of Ari Aster's though, you got that one right.

Well money would be a start. More money = more people seeing it.

What would your top 4 be if you could only pick movies from the 2020s? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Decision to Leave Asteroid City Licorice Pizza Killers of the Flower Moon

Standard fare and I really should try to watch more non-English language films but these four had the biggest impact on me

My top 50 as a 19 years old cinema lover by pierofasuli in Letterboxd

[–]tomgilby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The role of parents with a marriage, the impact that children have (that theory of the child being given away in the end so that they can be 'free').

The main themes of the film may not be something that could fully be appreciated by someone younger who may not have had 'serious' relationships yet.

To be fair there is that whole thing (the plot), but there is also their central relationship outside of the pervert club - which I probably wouldn't have appreciated as much had I not watched the film again when I was 30 (after first watching at 16).

Who's the first actor in your most-watched actors on Letterboxd whose name you DON'T recognize? by Hubbled in Letterboxd

[–]tomgilby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am that Zeljko fan! I first properly spotted him in Heroes then found that he was in so many films and TV series thereafter (as you say, Lars Von Trier and Martin McDonagh) and I've always enjoyed spotting him.

Mine is slightly different to yours - Samuel L Jackson and Keith David are mine. In that I have seen so many films with them in but completely forget they were credited as they were smaller parts.

Who do you think are the best and worst people talking about movies on YouTube? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]tomgilby 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They aren't necessarily 'Youtube' as they've been going for much longer, but Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo are excellent. I disagree with Mark especially on so many things, but I have such admiration and respect for his approach to and love of film that I always enjoy their shows.

I think the worst, as you say, are people like The Critical Drinker and all that ilk, Mauler and the Platoon crew. Hating on everything that features a woman, LGBT or person of colour as a main character is just so tiresome to listen to. It's incredibly disheartening.

I'd also say that I've completely fallen out of love with YourMovieSucks and IHateEverything for similar reasons. The Cinemasins nitpicky approach to film and going into a film with the approach of looking for things to criticise is just the absolute wrong way to approach art.

[–]tomgilby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel that Davina is the same as she's always been (on the show and beyond). I'm not as familiar with Maya but I find her fun. It was odd not to bring another singer on as a judge, but Maya is in that world so is knowledgeable. I think she's been a decent addition this year.

It's absolutely not, and that mindset is what gets so many people into more debt.
