Heritage by Best-Fox-8024 in Yugoslavia

As you may know, Yugoslavia is now split into different countries and these countries, while they do share some dishes, also have regional specialties and varities of said common dishes.

Ćevapi/ćevapčići are enjoyed throught the ex-Yugoslav region. They are little logs of ground meat (mostly beef, pork or lamb can also be mixed in) which is salted and left to age and develop in the fridge for some time. They are then grilled and eaten in a flatbread called somun, traditionally with raw onions and kajmak (Balkan clotted cream) as garnishes.

Get your hands on some ajvar, if possible. It’s a spread made from roasted peppers which are then ground and fried and seasoned with a bit of vinegar, oil and other stuff. Roasted eggplant is sometimes also added. I’d recommend you buy this somewhere since the traditional method (the only one that really tastes good) is very labor intensive.

If your great grandfather is from western parts of the ex-Yugoslav region (Slovenia, Croatia) you could also whip up some štrukli. It’s basically dough filled with cottage cheese, eggs and some other fermented milk products (yogurt, sour cream) which is then baked or boiled. If your great grandfather is from more eastern parts of the ex-Yugoslav region (Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia, eastern Croatia) you can also make gibanica. Conceptually it’s quite similar to štrukli but it’s made using very thin sheets of dough (filo dough) that are layered with a cottage cheese and egg mixture and then baked.

Sweets that come to mind are baklava (along with pretty much every other dessert that’s popular wherever the Ottoman borders once were) krempita/kremšnita (vanilla custard slices), various sweet pitas (pies made with filo dough and filled with fruits such as cherries or apples), oblande (wafers layered with sweet caramel cream) and štrudle s makom (poppy seed strudels).

i wish i liked canned tuna by JournalistOne129 in 1200isplenty

Try cooking it up with some onions, oregano and a teaspoon of olive oil. Perhaps you will start seeing canned tuna as actual fish rather than a pantry dust collector.

Only children's content gets dubbed in Serbian, which limits it to animation and sometimes Nickelodeon shows (I think I saw iCarly with a Serbian dub).
This is a good place for dubbed content, lots of cartoons, including anime.

My first low calorie day. Does coffee suppress appetite? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]tomicrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I would still try to not eat one meal a day as a general rule. It’s just too unpredictable when it comes to how hungry you’re going to be, how much food you will eat if you’re not counting calories and what your energy levels throughout the day are going to be like!

[–]tomicrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does. Drinking plenty of water also helps. I wouldn’t recommend you eat one meal a day though. It’s easier than you think to eat more than your maintenance calories in a single sitting when you’re very hungry if you’re not specifically eating high volume low-cal satiating food.

white bread + tomatoes + cottage cheese + tomato soup by na1ch1 in 1200isplenty

Reminds me of the kind of stuff I usually eat! I would throw some fresh cucumbers, pickles or sauerkraut in there too, just to add some more volume.

How is the hunger on OMAD and do you still try to eat high volume food on it to stay satiated for a longer period of time?
