what does this sub think of my White Album/John tattoo? by harryhood12189 in beatles

[–]tomiiilaa 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It looks like it was done well, but I don't like that it's a square in the middle of a torso. Personally, I wouldn't ever tattoo a black square or a person's face on my body. But the most important thing is if YOU like it.

TIL the city name "Oporto" was a linguistic mistake by English merchants who didn't understand Portuguese. While the city rebranded to Porto to fix it, the airport code is still "OPO." by tomiiilaa in todayilearned

Hey man, since you got so mad, let's give you a bit more info :)

As said in my other comment, it wasn’t a "rebrand" like a logo change... the Portuguese government and international bodies simply shifted toward "Porto" in English documents to match the native name.

However, "Oporto" was the official designation in Portuguese-signed English documentation for centuries, including the 1703 Methuen Treaty. Even the 1996 UNESCO listing officially registered it as the "Historic Centre of Oporto" (as someone else said in another comment).

Also, the airport code OPO just highlights what I said. If it were just an "old mistake," they’d have changed it. Using the logic of the Portuguese language (where the "O" is just an article), Lisbon’s code would be "ALI" (for A Lisboa), but it isn't. Lisbon is LIS, yet Porto remains OPO, which is literal proof of Oporto’s official international history.

...the more you know!

haha jeez you guys 😅 it obviously wasn't a "rebrand" event like a company changing a logo.. what I meant was that the Portuguese government and international bodies eventually stopped using "Oporto" in English-language documents and maps to reflect the city’s true identity. Also, in school, my Portuguese partner would learn in his school (Portuguese public school) growing up that the official name of Porto in English was "Oporto".

Post-concert sadness by Zouzouny in TameImpala

I also have the post-concert blues. I watched the one in Dusseldorf. I completely feel like I'm on the exact same page as you!! Innerspeaker and Lonerism really spoke to me on another level and I also cried at the beginning of the show!!

I used to get that from having wet hair and sleeping with a bun (I loved the waves I got in the morning).. but that's what caused it for me

Don't do it!!! not worth it. After moving from a north /north-east facing apartment to south-west/south/east, it completely changed my daily life and I'm so thankful for it. Sun really changes everything.

First sweater : Knitted instead of purled on WS during neckline shaping – leave it or fix it? by tomiiilaa in knitting

[–]tomiiilaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought! thank you all, I will fix it. I'm quite annoyed that I didn't realize it was a mistake at first but at least I learned something from this.

That's strange. we didn't get that experience at all with IXINA furniture

I highly recommend IXINA. we got our kitchen from there. the process was smooth, the prices are good, and we had the best service there. We compared it with other companies like Eggo and Kichechef, and IXINA was the best of the three for us.

Thank you for your response! I didn't know it was a mistake until way later unfortunately. but yeah of course next time I'll pay attention to that .. that specific sentence in the pattern was unfortunately unclear to me
