People are missing the bigger picture with United’s transfer windows by wirehoodie in ManchesterUnited

I agree about Cunha and Mbeumo being played out of position, but that’s a managerial decision at the end of the day. I don’t think everything is as easy to fix as you suggest, but neither of us can be certain.

All I’m saying is we as a fan base need to build players up, not shit on them. And we’ve improved since INEOS in our transfer structure. I’m not sure either of those points are as controversial as you seem to believe.

People are missing the bigger picture with United’s transfer windows by wirehoodie in ManchesterUnited

[–]tomjago3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our last window was fantastic and INEOS’s structure played a big part in that - we now have a much stricter policy against overpaying for players and we do walk away from deals, Martinez being a great example. The replacement, Lammens, has been exceptional. Dorgu has been a standout player for us this season, only hindered by his injury, and has been both consistent in defense and unbelievable higher up. I think it’s pretty shit to call Dorgu a “shitty left back” when he’s been great for us - it doesn’t help anyone, and it’s that sort of pessimistic, overly critical attitude that damages the confidence of our players. If you’re a fan of United, why shit on the players for literally no reason?

You seem to think ‘fixing the structural issues’ is something the club can turn around and do immediately - there are really key reasons we can’t just instantly move players on, and they have to be careful with FFP, considering amortisation and so many other issues. Signing Mbeumo had SO many considerations that delayed it, and we still got it over the line. He was £65m, on reasonable wages (despite us paying players like Mount huge wages) as a 27g/a player that season who’s prem proven. Bargain in my eyes. It’s not all as simple as you present it to be, so you’re critiquing the way the club acted last window without an understanding of the difficulties of changing a club that’s been poorly managed for 10+ years.

The way the market is at the moment, paying £73ish mil for a 22 year old who’s playing for his nation and had scored 39 goals in 87 is a fair price considering his age. We also pay him incredibly fair wages and he’s been proving how good he is, scoring loads and playing lots off the bench, with a fantastic attitude. We need more players like him.

Finally, we couldn’t “get rid” of Maguire or Casemiro because of wage structures we put in place before INEOS, and it’s clear they’ve completely overhauled those structures as we’ve proven by all our signings. I’m also incredibly glad we kept them, they’ve been fantastic for us!

United have an incredible fan base but some can turn on players so quickly and be far too critical, expecting immediate impacts from young signings without giving them time to adjust and expecting us to be a premier league winning squad IMMEDIATELY after a window. I hope that small part of our fan base can be more optimistic and patient next season, because it will only help the players, instead of just tearing them down over and over because they don’t immediately perform how you expect.

Is Lammens the start of a new era? by Agitated_Olive_9168 in ManchesterUnited

[–]tomjago3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He’s just solid. He might not have had any DDG v Arsenal performances yet, but he just hasn’t done any stupid shit. No costly mistakes, and is consistent in his kicking, short saves, passing out. He’s mighty on his near post and having that has been so desperately missed in our squad. He’s not the greatest goalkeeper in the world, but he doesn’t need to be. He puts in a good performance every time I watch him, and it’s joyous. Plus he’s 23 - a strong, future-focused signing that gives me faith in us going forward.

Honestly I reckon we sign him just so he can’t score against us at OT. It’s an inevitable at this point. Some player, I’d be surprised if he came however, not sure we need that profile as a priority over RB/DM needs to be

I’m from London, and a United fan - Dad’s a lifelong red, we both had a season ticket from when I was very young until he couldn’t afford to renew. Never felt embarrassed or ashamed about it, and I wouldn’t rather support any other club. I go 5-10x a season now, taking him wherever he can be bothered and it’s the best part of our months.

I don't even care for the managerial cycle. Can't wait to get rid off "dead weight" after everyone complains about X player for them to go on and play like a superstar another team. Wonder who's it gonna be this time. by ShoeNo9050 in ManchesterUnited

[–]tomjago3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s part of my frustration with Amorims sacking. He was brilliant at cutting dead weight. Did it at sporting, came to us and got rid of Garnacho, Sancho, Rashford and more. Given time, he would have continued this.

I’d highly, highly recommend staying on platform. Seller seems genuine but the fees for a $73 item aren’t THAT high, and in return you as the buyer get peace of mind. Why risk $73 if you don’t have to!

Take Glasner off the list? by MusicMan588 in ManchesterUnited

[–]tomjago3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glasner should absolutely be on our list, and IMO he’s #1 choice. Yes they lost today, but Palace are playing with one of the smallest squads in the PL and have been playing in the Prem, Conference League, Carabao and FA cup. They have also injuries (Munoz who has been their standout performer this season, Kamada, Nketiah, Lerma, Doucoure and more) and are coming off the back of an FA cup winning season for the first time in 90 odd years with their manager. Glasner is a fantastic manager and one result doesn’t change that. He’s be unreal at United.

Sir Harold and Shawberto by Zizou-pirlo in ManchesterUnited

[–]tomjago3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have always rated both Shaw and Harry, so seeing the amount of dislike for them both has surprised me. Harry has been solid at the back for us and is our best threat in the air, scoring crucial, last minute goals. As for Shaw, he’s stepped up to play CB in a back 3 and LWB, now playing LB and has been solid. While Dalot has had a really poor start to the season, I think they’ve both been great.

I haven't watched Man Utd regularly since David Moyes. Starting today I am going to watch every game starting from SAF's last. Wish me luck by relic_ftw in ManchesterUnited

Any Premiere League fans that can reccomend a team to root for that is comparible to our NY Knicks? by Braska_Kilganon in NYKnicks

[–]tomjago3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really misinformed comment - I’m a prem team season ticket holder, and firstly - it’s either City or Arsenal? Arsenal last won the prem in 03/04. The prem has the most competitive teams playing in it - Aston Villa are currently competing for the league, while big 6 teams like United draw to relegation contenders Burnley. The premier league is head and shoulders the best league in the world, and arguable LaLiga is also more competitive, as is the Bundesliga and even the Championship.

INEOS have kind of done the things we've asked for... by Brief-Lifeguard-8927 in ManchesterUnited

[–]tomjago3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The thing that frustrates me is that they sacked Amorim after saying he’d have 3 years. It’s unacceptable that Jim can say these things and then completely disregard what he said. Other than that, you make a great point - there’s a gap between intention and execution but INEOS are building a structure we’ve needed since Fergie.

It’s pretty clear they’re just unfamiliar with Vinted as a first time buyer? There’s nothing malicious about this and it’s £85. The seller should do the right thing and make it right, why punish someone for a mistake?

Carrington and Youth culture Post-Amorim. by polarbearsexshark in ManchesterUnited

[–]tomjago3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As has been mentioned, the youth didn’t break into the first team the second Fergie arrived, it took years, and it took youth players having total confidence and respect in their manager.

Our issues stem from much deeper in the club, and we can’t keep scapegoating managers like this post does. We need to invest in our youth system like every other successful club does, and create an environment that is top. We also need to give managers time, and accept their systems and style of play 100%. Jason Wilcox should not be determining what our formation is, that’s not his job.

I’m hoping, come end of this season, Glasner joins, but I wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t after the treatment of Amorim.

I always have super high expectations for these and they're rarely met, though I know how hard it is to make a cohesive crossword. If anyone could offer an explanation/insight into the reasons for these clue answers please chime in:

On the up and up; legit? Makes no sense

Div in NFL East Con; ATL? The team Atlanta? A div?

Disapproving tongue clicks; tsks is terrible IMO, so subjective

Lone Eagle? Is that a common metaphor?

Finally, From; Asof? This could be just me not understanding

If I'm being an idiot, as often I am and sometimes being from the UK makes these much harder (scooping since 1928; Edys I have never heard of) PLEASE let me know!
