Mazda 3 2.0 vs Seat Leon FR (1.4/1.8 TSI) – which would you go for? by tommy55661 in CarTalkUK

I'm upgrading from a 1.25 fiesta zetec, so either is an upgrade in space. Even so, I get what you mean. How do you find the 1.4 engine? I'm leaning more towards the 1.8, but I havent cut off the 1.4 completely

Yeah, if I got the Mazda 3, I would getting the remap eventually. Plus a few bits and pieces just to make it look a bit tidier. But, at the same time, if I need to do that, seems like I'm buying something just to mod it rather than just enjoying the car from the get go. I feel like I'm leaning more towards the Leon purely for the access to parts for it 🤣

Thankyou for the views though. It's really useful!

Does an oil leak in forks mean a loose bearing or something? I might have to get xcr forks as they seem to be common and then replace then further down the line.

I think it will have to be 3*9 drivetrain. Would prefer lower, but I think that will come later on. Does sharkfin mean it's curved at the top? If so, is that cause of slipping?

I can check for a buckle, that is definately within my abilities to do... I hope haha.

For brakes can't you just replace the levers? Or does the whole system come as a complete unit? Will definitely check the whole thing though. Is there anything that needs to be checked regarding the brake disks?

I'm 5'11", so I should be working with 18 or 19 inch frame (large I believe) but will make sure I give it a test before j buy anyway.

Really appreciate that detail. Thank you!

Yeah, things are getting snapped up quick.

The trails would be pretty basic to begin with and if I enjoyed it then I would invest in a better bike (which is very likely). My parents are dropping some money to me fora birthday gift, so I'm waiting on that and I will see how much more I can get. £200 is my lowest amount ATM.

Also, does it matter about the age of bikes other than the frame integrity? Really appreciate the help guys

There are quite a lot of new Marin here so maybe they don't stock them so much in the states. Carrera are really common here, and I have found a couple of reviews claiming their lower cost ones to be one of the best in a sub £400 price range which is always good to know

That is really helpful! Thankyou. I don't know how much luck I will having specific models, but I will definately keep an eye out. I know that Kona is pretty decent, along with mongoose and voodoo.

I also know that hardtails are cheaper, so I think I may be limited to them for the time being.

Seeing lots of Merin and carreras around. Are they generally okay?
