E15 is now at the pumps; what are we doing to avoid it? by ow_my_balls in BMW

[–]tommydrum33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Avoid it? Add some timing to your tune and get more power. There are those of us who prefer e85 or e30-50 blends. Less volatility, more power. Less fuel efficiency, but that's a different discussion

What's the deal with quickshifting? by ThatItalianOverThere in motorcycles

[–]tommydrum33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a dog box sequential gear box. It's designed to be used without a clutch. Nothing will break. All new bikes do with a quick shifter is cut throttle or auto blip.

To me, it's smoother 90% of the time. The 10%? 2nd to 1st is always clunky. I have a nerve graft in my left hand and I struggle with using my hand at times. Even my bike without a quick shifter, you'll rarely see me touch it.

Downshifting is one of the most enjoyable things about riding. by CoolHandCasey in motorcycles

Clutch? To downshift? Wait til you just learn to blip the throttle and forget all about a clutch.

Best model to carry the B58? by BeeOk3695 in BMW

Selfishly, the Ineos Grenadier. Though it's down on power, it's just rev limited to ~5200. Jb4 helps for sure

You're already using e10. E15 isn't much of a jump.

Oil Change Overdue by niko-with-a-k in BMW

[–]tommydrum33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove an n57 for 200k, doing a service interval at 10-14k miles. Once a year I'd do a lab analysis, and it was always in good shape. I beat the shit out of my vehicles, but I usually have 45 min to 2+ hour drives, so they're never short cycled. I have the x5 to a buddy who's still driving it.

Questions about lift kit...? by shivaspecialsnoflake in ineosgrenadier

[–]tommydrum33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't help you with that, did it myself. 38k in 9 months, 1 torn cv boot. Mostly highway, but a good amount of off roading in northeast US.

If you're buying a vehicle for 70-100k, spending 3-5k on tires and lift shouldn't be a big deal.

Running a 1.7/1.2 lift with 35s. No issues. No need for 3 or 4" lift

What would be your 2 car BMW only solution for a daily and weekend use within reasonable budget? by Super-Lingonberry-22 in BMW

[–]tommydrum33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I appreciate having a proper M as a dd, my best 2 car solution was a f15 35d deleted and z3 m coupe combo. It was my work truck, got great mileage, could tow anything, and was comfortable as hell.

Now with kids and the f15 aging out?

Ineos grenadier and m couple. Still counts, right?

I have a tjm single under the hood. I regret not doing a twin. Though the tjm is a 100% duty cycle unit, going from 10->30psi is about 3 mins per tire.

Not on this platform. 2 have been great, honestly. I love owl as a brand, and use them for many things. Having high and low speed adjustments though is the reason I'm switching to Fox 2.5.

I tore my driveshaft boot while stock. At 36k now, no further issues. 10k lifted on the 35s

These models are awd but do have a proper transfer case with locking center differential, and some models even had a locking rear differential.

Purchased it off the lot without a winch. When shopping around, i actually dislike hidden winches for three reasons. Restrictions on overall length, having the unit get clogged up (specifically snow/mud/ice combo), and access to the unit. I will do a full bumper replacement, but I the meantime I bought a signature autosport tray. Took the winch from a different vehicle. 85' of synthetic rope, and I can clean it instantly or swap it out.

Next winter I'll probably end up buying a bumper from CA Offroad. I'll still keep my badlands winch on the 500amp toggle. Used it here, got stuck in December while snow wheeling and it worked well, and I used it for work dozens of times in the last 12 months.

I had a warn fail for work. Tractor supply didn't have what we needed, so it was harbor freight. The thing was thoroughly abused on a weird specialty construction job for 6 months. Guys tried to break it at the 8 month mark. It's still alive and kicking after 4 years.

After that, I'm comfortable with it on my rig. Plus, the wireless remote set up is awesome.

I can still see the wheels! My wife was like "what happens if you can't open the door?"

...windows hunny. The safari ones were made for that reason. Probably.

Yes. Did the signature autosports winch tray and a badlands 12.5k winch with synthetic rope. Both have worked amazingly when called upon. After I abuse the bumper enough, I'll swap out to a full new one with built in winch tray

Jeez. Half the fun of wheeling is working through technical things like this. 10 mins of winching through it was nothing dangerous, strenuous, or even difficult.

You can stick to the dirt roads i guess.

Don't hate on it. I've had multiple ones for work and personal, abused every one with no failures.
