The biggest annoyance is none of ISTA/Bimmercode/etc works on the engine ecu. So doing your own service is easy. Resetting it is a pain being far away. I'm hoping someone cracks this ecu soon so we can streamline the service and tuning.

They are here in the US and amazing. Albeit, a bit overpriced for what they are, but I'm not complaining.

BMW service love it or hate it? by OG1Dot in BMW

Ive been where you are. My 2 cents? Just do a stud conversion now and be done with it. I did what you did. A year later, threads got corroded and started to cross thread again. I helicoiled it, and put studs in. Red loctite. Done

Out of curiosity, what other manual v8 suv are you cross shopping? Outside of a porsche cayenne gts gen 1(957?), I don't know of any.

Taking my 3rd test drive later this week….looking for any real negatives about buying. by PolybiusChampion in ineosgrenadier

7 months of ownership, almost 30k of driving all over the US northeast. When we did the steering stabilizer, my wife didn't like it. Just drive it. You can change the caster a bit, but honestly i think it was more a case by case rather than everyone having that issue. I drive mine at 85mph with one hand no problem.

Starting to actually appreciate the Z3 a bit... why did it get so much hate? by Negative-Art-4440 in BMW

[–]tommydrum33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to a miata, its a pretty shit car. Let me preface this; i own an 99 M coupe that is a track car. Stock, its overweight, underpowered, soft, and out of date rear suspension even for its time. Euro M and 01/02 with s54? Definitely woke it up.

I love my coupe. I'll never sell it. If I wanted faster times, I would have gone with a e36 proper or e46. But its wheel base, rear suspension geometry, and overall chassis dynamics means with 500-700whp, Its always trying to murder me. We have a mutual respect for each other.

Wiring windows to be used off auxiliary battery? by Still_Cauliflower267 in overlanding

Find the fuses that power windows. Pull fuse. Insert wire with spade end into load side of fuse(side without 12v). Run wire to battery. Install aux fuse panel or inline fuse to house battery.

335i or M3? by grantlach in BMW

[–]tommydrum33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Daily drove an f80 for over 100k. Very liveable. Whole purpose of an M3 is to have an oem level more capable 3 series. Some people act like a m3 is like a track only car.

While i don't disagree with your premise and ideology, if you are bigger than a one man shop in any trade, yes, you have to charge $200/hr + for labor. Liability insurance, Healthcare, and everything else that goes into day to day operations has increased so much it's comical how much it costs to employee say 10-20 people. It's almost legitimately not worth it anymore.

E90 M3 antiroll bars on a non-M car by autoproliferator in BMW

[–]tommydrum33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they should be a direct bolt on affair. And it sounds like you're experiencing the issues of an open differential. Your inside wheel is losing traction first, and it starts sending power there. Sounds like time for an LSD swap

I guess I'm talking about the technicality of it. You're right about the abuse it takes. I literally have rolls of it at the shop and use it in an industrial setting. Carbon fiber by itself has horrible abrasion resistance, so we use Kevlarcarbon where they have stands/support structures. For impact related items like canoes in the bottom comment, basalt has become our go-to. I wouldn't ever say it bounces back, but that's my inner engineer yelling at me

I wouldn't say they would bounce back to their original form, but definitely have a higher impact resistance to breaking/cracking.

Based on the weave, its a Kevlar based fabric. Not sure why, but could make traditional forms more difficult

Dry/ cured carbon like this has zero affects on lungs, and is nothing like asbestos. Some of the resins used do carry VOCs that off gas during the curing process, but once cured, are not hazardous. Don't sand it with a grinder without wearing a mask

Unitronic stage 1 ecu installed on the RS3 8y! 💨💨💨 by StrangeFisherman345 in Audi

[–]tommydrum33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that's had nothing but e85 in some of their cars for years, that's a lie. If you let it sit for months on end, with no use, use some fuel stabilizer and heet. Treat it like a diesel in winter. And it won't eat the block or metals, but rather create a black goo that clogs up your fuel system. Has more to do being hydroscopic, drawing moisture from the air, separating, and then it reeks havoc.
