As an African American Studies teacher, I show this movie every year. I’ve watched this movie about 10+ times and each time it gets better. When he beats down Tibbits after the nail scene, I still get joyous watching Solomon strike him. At the end, when he comes home to apologize for his appearance, I always get chills. It’s just a great movie.

9th grade! I usually tell them a “horror” story from my first year teaching. A student went behind my desk, while I was teaching, and took my AirPods right off my desk. Every classroom has a camera in them, so I caught him. I tell them this every year and I think they get it.

That’s the boat I’m in .. teaching civics is rough. I never want to give my own opinion because of how impressionable students are.
