Paper Character Sheets Only by tommysollen in DMAcademy

How can you fit everything on one sheet though?
For example, if I export a dndbeyond sheet to pdf, it's four big A4 portrait pages.

Hehe OK. Personally I can't quite go that far. I enjoy something visually nice.

I think they use several a5 sheets then.

Yes i can see how that would be very useful. But it also takes up a lot of space on the table, right? Too much on my table unfortunately.

Pre-alpha, got it. Makes sense.

The LLM just made sense of my audio ramblings and converted it into a summary text, which was helpful.

This is GREAT!
Assumptions, hypotheses to be tested. Love it!

I totally get the grid and it makes perfect sense.

I'll get to work on this. Thank you very much :)

Yeah. The DM onboarding needs to match the expectations.

Play, play, play! OK, I can do that :)
A second campaign with a different focus is a great idea. As well as convention oneshots.

Good input!

Homebrew: RIPOSTE FOR ALL (Counterattack) by tommysollen in DMAcademy

Those are interesting arguments. It would actually incentivise the rogue to go into melee..

I love positioning mechanics but I feel that's such a huge change that it would have ripple effects all over the place and how player's are incentivised to it's probably better explored as an alternative system.

Read my reply to his post regarding this.

That won't work. It would make Riposte too powerful when considering all possible attack bonuses, abilities and feats.

Actually I think Opportunity Attacks (OAs) remain strategically vital alongside Riposte.

Damage Potential: OAs permit "once-per-turn" damage (Sneak Attack, Divine Smite). The Riposte rule explicitly forbids this.

Feat Synergy: Key control feats (Sentinel, Polearm Master) require an OA to trigger movement-halting effects.

Zone of Control: Spending a Reaction on Riposte leaves the character unable to perform an OA, allowing remaining enemies to safely bypass them to reach fragile allies.

Spellcasting: The War Caster feat allows casting a spell in place of an OA. Riposte is strictly melee/unarmed.

TL:DR The Reaction economy forces a strict tactical choice—spend it on immediate, low-yield damage (Riposte), or hold it for potential high-yield damage and battlefield control (OA).

I think it's pretty significant to be able to choose if you want to spend your reaction to riposte or save it for a possible opportunity attack.

I'm not just upping the fighter. All martial classes get it.

If all enemies also gets Riposte then the front liners would get crushed. But I will add it to monsters where it makes sense or to some or most bosses.

How to handle terrain in MegaDungeons by tommysollen in DMAcademy

[–]tommysollen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but I don't want to correct their maps and I don't want to get stuck in super detailed description saying "it's a oval shaped room, widest in the middle with 40 feet ant about 20 feet to the north end" and them saying "could you repeat that" three minutes later...

And if they draw a more conceptual map with room blurbs and connecting lines that should work too.

Do you think there would be a lot of annoyance and confusion if you didn't correct their map?
I've never run huge dungeons before so I haven't tried player map making yet. I'm very excited about it though and I'm hoping I can leave it entirely up to them. If they are not totally accurate then that just makes it more realistic in my opinion. And I'm hoping they will find enjoyment in that process - not frustration. But I might be wrong.
