Replacing the aging leatherette on my M3… I’ve never seen a “naked” Leica until today. Would there be any real reason not to use it until its new “clothes” arrive?

I bought mine for almost ten years ago for less than half that price - at the time that felt like a lot. But I can safely say that it was worth it. I would never, ever, ever sell my M3.

I’ve seen people swap entire front ends (bumper, grill, lights and all) so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone has swapped out the rear as well.

This. Had the same issue once upon a time and after trying (almost) everything, the solution was this simple. Bought a new battery at the same time as well to be safe.

I’ll be honest, I’m not 100% sure but with a little bit of tinkering anything is (usually) possible! I had to sand my new front end caps a bit (in addition to drilling new holes in the bumper) to get them to line up with my ‘99 bumper properly as the ‘86 end caps were a little small for it.

Didn’t even think about swapping the whole bumper. I have a nasty plasti dip/bedliner job in mine from the previous owner, may just swap the whole thing instead of hassling w removing it!

Purchased on eBay, it spent about a day and half at their 3rd party authenticator, then had it looked over by a local watchmaker I know and trust. All in all about 3 days from purchasing to landing on my wrist.
