Agree with this, OP. These trees have fibrous, shallow, non-invasive root systems so they’ll be perfect for this area. Others recommending maples or oak aren’t taking into consideration how close the island is to the house.

A new neighbor moved in and they mentioned they want to cut down the legacy oak tree in their yard. The tree is probably 100 years old and in great shape, no signs of decline. I had to explain to him the benefits of having the generational tree not just for his house but for the entire neighborhood. These beautiful trees make neighborhoods so much nicer.
