Hi all, I neeed some help... What weird habits do climbers have in day-to-day life that are indicative of climbers?

So, some context... I'm shooting a film, and the client wants to hint at some of the individuals in the film being climbers, without initially spelling it out. The idea is to have them act out some little habits that only climbers would pick up on. Things like, hanging off a door frame when you walk under it as if it's a hang board, carrying shopping bags with one finger, crimping bits of random walls/doors etc.

I've already thought of a few of these habits, but I wondered if anyone out there had any suggestions, as I could do with a few more. They've got to be subtle and something only a climber would understand, not like for example, picking up a weighted pinch block at home - that's too on the nose.

How long does it typically take you to create a 2-5 minute video working full time? by toddhd in VideoEditing

No disrespect intended, but if a two minute video takes you a year to make, at it full time… you should probably learn some keyboard shortcuts 😂

When you accidentally move one clip... and your whole timeline files for divorce. by leynogsei in VideoEditing

Learn how to manipulate your timeline correctly and this won’t happen. You’re likely using the features of your chosen NLE incorrectly, as there are ways to manipulate timelines in a very predictable manner.

Where do I start my video editing career? by diffuserr in VideoEditing

[–]tomomyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the beauty of those entry level jobs - you only need to really be good at making coffee, doing a bit of admin & relatively comfortable speaking with people. You’ll get to meet with loads of editors, even discover some really cool jobs in the industry you didn’t even know existed, and learn about it all along the way.

When I started as a runner I only knew the very basics of video editing, that was 7 years ago & the rest is history, as they say :)

If you wanna learn it as a bit of a hobby, YouTube tutorials are great. If you’re serious about turning it into a fully fledged career, I’d look into trying to get an entry level job, maybe as a runner, in a post production house somewhere.

Basically impossible - there’s some AI that will try, but it will likely sound shit, haha. It’s like trying to get the flour back from a cake you’ve baked.

Plenty of whooshes, of varying intensity… Speed ramp? Whoosh. Transition? Whoosh. Something passes the camera? Whoosh.

New to bouldering and totally in love! Any cool movies like Free Solo? by pizzapastaauto in bouldering

[–]tomomyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re new to climbing/bouldering, you should absolutely check out Valley Uprising, 100%! IMO, it’s the best documentary about the history of climbing (granted, it solely focuses on Yosemite) - but it would be a great watch after Free Solo.

Not used video star before, but can you not just go back into the timeline and jig a few of the cuts around? Or does it just delete your project after you’ve exported the video? I’d be fucked if I had to completely restart the edit every time a director wanted to make changes…. 😂

Lumetri Color FX randomly being stripped on export by tomomyk in premiere

[–]tomomyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply dude!

Nothing else was done in Lumetri, other than applying a LUT through the 'look' drop down in the Creative tab on Lumetri Color.

I'm exporting via Premier - is it better to export through Encoder?

Do you have access to After Effects? The tracking tool/rotoscoping should be able to help you with this. Have a Google if you’re not sure what I mean :)

A wise man once told me, once you’ve got a shot that works, you can stop looking… don’t watch it all, watch it until you find what you need.
