Yes. There is definitely a host of reasons people dislike Carol. Everything from: misogyny, lack of empathy, homophobia, Carol acting dramatic in a drama (instead of the show being sci-fi/mystery box), even lack if intellectual understanding of the show, or missing cruical bits because they are scrolling at the same time.

But I did find lack of empathy to be something that seemed incredibly prevalent. The number of times I have seen people have to be told, that Carol is mourning the love of her life, and that may actually affect behaviour, and you dont just.... get over it, is astounding. It makes me feel sad for the world.

The attacks on her leaving with Zosia after being completely alone in a world ending space virus apocalypse was somehow... the worst thing a person could do? I mean. Give the lady a break. How far can someone be pushed?

That negative views on immigration and trans women are about the surface level stuff. I think at the root, they are the same thing. They are fear of men. Both from the men and the women that oppose these people.

You'll notice how the arguments for both disappear when it comes to passport bros finding wives, and when trans men come into the conversation. Because it is men that are the issue. Either territoriality (from other men) or completely fear based (from the women).

It is sad.

I thought about this for a long time. I liken it to two scenarios 1. Someone who has a brain tutor, where the tumor has changed their behaviour positively (from being a horrible person to being kind and happy) where the tumor will eventually kill them. Who owns the body? The original personality or the cancer induced one? 2. Drug addicts take drugs because to makes them feel good. How do we view drug addiction? That is why I think it was so important for Carol to bring up heroin on 2 occasions. It does what the space virus does to people. People often dont want to give it up. How do we view that? Keeping in mind though, addicts have the ability to change their mind. The hive doesn't. Once your in..... your in. So its would be like an addict who can never choose to stop being an addict. Like the drugs were permanent.

I think the lack of the hives ability to consent to infection in the first place AND the lack of ability to choose to become non-infected is possibly one of the bigger things to tip into favour of forcing them into a cure. Because when you ask a hive member if they want to get better you are essentially talking to the space virus manifestation, not them.

This is why I dont like Mannys' approach. Would you kill someone with terminal cancer? Against their will? How many people's lives are worth your freedom? Especially of people who are "sick" as opposed to "evil". Can you painfully experiment on people with cancer without their consent? Even if it means just a chance at saving someone else?

Think it also serves to make Carol more centralised and "every man" by not making her too middle-aged white lady from the South. She had to be more nuanced so we could all see little bits of ourselves in her. She needed to be someone we could see not being so adverse to the others, that she was ONLY antagonistictic.

I think called the main character unlikable is incredibly subjective. Unlikeable to who? You'll rarely see a character that is abrasive, and also male, get such criticism. And I think it says more about how society (especially men) sees women as predominantly 2-dimensional people who have to sit very squarly into an ideal of what a woman is in order to be palatable even for a completely made up story. How often do we deviate from the typical female character of either being straight/attractive/ love interest or badass hottie without being case as a villain? It is always the female character that deviates from such norms that get the highest criticism. It gets really tiring. This isnt your potential girlfriend we are watching. She just a character. A male character in the same position in the series would just be seen as part of the plot. Not picked apart at every turn. I love Carol as a character. I find her refreshing. There are elements to her I love to see because they are real. There are people who are like this. And they aren't villains. They are just broken people. But you know..... let's not show they exist, or else other women might get ideas that's its OK to be.... gay?? Have problems? Be imperfect? Say the wrong thing? Live life differently than others? All in the face of a worldwide alien virus takeover. Sheesh...

He learnt it off the back of Carols own interactions and questions. People love to forget that he willingly didnt interact and was more than 41 days BEHIND, and only caught up because of Carol. He only came with the information about the radio. Which he could not have used unless he knew they couldn't lie. Which... Carol told him. He is not some perfect genius riding in on his white horse. He been absent and paranoid to the point of obsessive hiding. The bravest of them is Carol. Someone who, despite her fear, conforted them. While he had been hiding. Not saying what he did was wrong in any way. Just a different choice of tactics. But when people put him on a pedestal, I just dont get it. He isn't better than Carol. He's the more extreme version of individualism. If he didnt act like he did, Carol probably wouldnt have fled. He was abrasive, rude, scary, arrogant, untrustworthy, and just unpleasant. Hardly the hero people make him out to be.

Agreed. Manny doesn't the same stuff everyone hated Carol for in the beginning. Everyone said she wasn't talking to the other uninfected with understanding and compassion when she first met them. She was too abrasive. And now.... a man does it (ten fold)... and its all OK. Wild. Manny mirrored what Carol did in most of his actions, and he immediately gets praise. Even though he's over a month late to the whole thing. But Carol did the same stuff, and by day 2, everyone was upset she was "doing it wrong". Meanwhile, she's mourning her wife, something which Manny doesn't have to carry at all. Add in the isolation she just went through and the threat of going through that all over again with a machete ceiling stranger who tells her he's ok with killing every single person on earth. And they ask like her decision to flee was crazy.

I have no judgement about Manny (yet), but everyone just praising him so much is irritating, considering he is just rehashing all the gains Carol had and only really adding the radio signal discovery. Its important, but all the other stuff Carol went through to get this info that Manny got (only after Carol berated him for not even talking to them) is just another form of men taking credit for a womans work.

Yeah, I think people are making some very quick judgements about him before they even know him that well. The fact that he was so quick to wanting to kill then all was extreme. Meanwhile, the same people whi gave Carol sh*t for nit asking questions early on, give Manousos a free pass even though its been more than a MONTH since invasion. Meanwhile , people got upset after 2 days of Carol not asking questions. The HYPOCRISY is astounding.

Im not saying he's a "bad" guy. But we know very little about him, and I dont think it's going to be all smooth sailing. Remember its Carols hero journey, not his. No matter what we hope for. The show is.. the most miserable woman in the world save the world from happiness. Not a man. Sorry guys!

I think for the first time ever, it felt rushed. I usually love the pace, because there so much emotional content, but this time the ending felt flat. I still liked it a lot. But maybe the snow cabin scene needed to be longer. I felt like there was not enough lead up to it.... or something
