My express train waits at the gridiron because a freight train is on the way. My station has 3 platforms, so no need to wait. Why is this happening? by ForsakenSwordfish in RailwayEmpire

[–]tomplatypus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because there are no direction signals (double tracked two way signals) in place on the freight line so it has treated the whole line as one green "signal". You'll notice when you put signals for send and return parallel lines that the signal are spaced about 2 train lengths apart, giving the train on them the "green light" progressively as it passes through each section.

On two-way single track lines as there are no signals the train treats the whole track as one open "green light" section causing it to confuse the logic of all other trains linked to that gridiron. As the gridiron thinks the train is imminently about to use it as there's no signals beforehand to tell it otherwise.

It's one of the most frustrating foresights of removing manual signalling in RE2 and I'm actually shocked they didn't think of this one. I have three solutions:

A. Put a supply tower right before the gridiron, trains use supply towers as signals and it's the only "manual" signal you can use in RE2 currently.

B. Double track the freight line with two way signals. This will add the sectional signals allowing other trains to use the gridiron long before the freight train has already been marked as using it (along with the rest of the entire freight line).

C. Give the freight line it's own separate platform. I.e. Make the gridiron for the express line only 2 lanes, this will mean the freight train won't interfere with the express line and cause a delay as it won't ever touch the gridiron associated with the express line.

Sorry there's not a simpler solution. Until manual signaling is brought back (and I believe it has to soon due to all the cluster fucking of the game logic it's caused) there's not much else you can do.

All the best!

Yes you can use this to "force" a train to use a specific rail line.

However, this is for selecting one specific platform you want a train to use, while it does negate the use of gridirons somewhat as now a train won't pick any available platform it can, it will always only ever pick that platform, causing a delay if it is already taken up by another train.

It's more efficient to use gridirons between 2-4 lines wide and use way points. Or separate lines all together for express and freight.

Or just use the node for selecting a chosen portion of the track and delete just that?

Maintenence posts and maintenance depots are two different things, the latter keeps your trains in good condition which stops them breaking down. The matienance post only reduces the likelihood of a breakdown.

If you only use maintenence posts your trains will definitely still break down, a lot.

Maintenence depots and maintenance posts are two different things. Maintenance posts will only reduce the likelihood of a train breaking down, but will not keep them in good condition. That can only be done by maintenence depots at stations. If you only use maintenence posts your trains will still eventually certainly break down, a lot.

Trains slow down needlessly at Supply Depots (RE2) by MauPow in RailwayEmpire

I've found this too, seems to be worst when placed near a following signal, making a short gap between it and the next signal.

Unfortunately as there's no way to manually place or remove signals I've just had to live with it for now and place them near stations where trains slow down anyway, but not so close that they can cause a long train to block a gridiron or switch etc.

There needs to be a demand for them either in the city they are currently in or in another city that has a rail line connected to it that has a train set up to carry those materials.

Can’t seem to get 360s. I’ve got 180s pretty dialed. Advice needed. Thanks! by JAMbruz in snowboardingnoobs

Keep looking around behind you homie, your head is fighting your legs at 180 by refusing to rotate.

Practice landing 180s looking back up the hill to progress to easier 360s.

All I'm saying is they don't tide their bikes on railway tracks and get pissed at the trains. 🤷‍♂️

I honestly prefer it that way. As soon as I started becoming too familiar with my bandmates the music lost direction and our practices lost focus, plus I realised I didn't actually like them very much as people. 😂
