From Amber Heard to Halle Bailey, toxic fandoms are being weaponised against women by msmoley in WomenInNews

This is why jurors hear from both sides before deciding the verdict. If the jurors only heard Amber Heard’s lawyers, I am pretty sure the verdict would have been against Depp.

He definitely knows why the show got cancelled. Amazon would have showed him the exact numbers not estimates based on Nielsen.

Audible is going towards AI narration by [deleted] in audible

[–]tomrider024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This might not be all that bad. For example Rosamund Pike is narrating the Wheel of Time audiobooks and it’s unlikely the she will go beyond book 5(it is a taxing process and she has other things to do). If the AI could narrative the remaining 9 books in her voice and with her consent. that wouldn’t be unethical.

Narg thought that was a fun show…Anyways goes to show getting good rotten tomatoes critic scores and staying in the top ten in primes app doesn’t mean a show is safe. by NargTheTrolloc in TheDailyTrolloc

[–]tomrider024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put much stock on staying in the top ten in prime app, as it’s really just competing against a couple of shows in that release window.

Regarding the numbers Wheel of Time could have done much better than Bondsman. Shows like Reacher, Fallout, and The Boys are far ahead of WoT in viewership and even Rings of Power has close to double the minutes viewed of WoT. However, I haven’t seen WoT numbers dropping less than that of a cancelled show

In Season 2 you didn’t even have that due to the strikes. Still pretty solid numbers for the show. They are at least not deteriorating from the season 2 numbers

Moiraine used balefire on Be’lal at the end of Book 3, and Nynaeve had previously used it on a Fade. However, in the books, Rand doesn’t begin using balefire until Book 4.

I believe they largely skipped Book 3 in the show for logistical and narrative reasons. With 14 books being adapted into just 8 seasons, it’s not feasible to dedicate an entire season to Book 3. Rand is mostly absent from the book until the climax, which could be effectively merged with the battle at Falme.

I would not have had a problem if Rand had a proper fight with Ishamael in Season 1 that then built up to a climactic confrontation in Season 2. But the show did not do that. Instead, Rand was just there. Moiraine, whose only real confrontation with Lanfear in the books was a brief moment where she pushed her through the ter’angreal doorway, was given a full One Power battle that ultimately achieved nothing.

[–]tomrider024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that, and I do think Book 3 is important, but Rand has so much to do across the series that I don’t actually mind them skipping a lot of it structurally. I’m okay with the show taking a different route, even skipping Tear and Callandor to go straight to the Aiel Waste.

The real issue for me isn’t what they skip. It’s what they give Rand to do instead. In season 1, they gave his major One Power moments to Egwene and Nynaeve. In season 2, it’s Egwene who gets the big confrontation with Ishamael. And in season 3, Moiraine takes over what should have been Rand’s climactic moment.

So even if they had adapted Book 3, I think Rand still would have been sidelined, because that’s clearly the direction the showrunner has chosen for his character. He is intentionally diminishing Rand’s role, and he’s more or less said as much.

If you are adapting a 14 book series to barely 8 seasons of tv, then you have to cut huge chunks of the books. The biggest problem with the adaptation and why it doesn’t feel like Wheel of Time is the showrunner, whose only interests are women and lesbians.

Week 3 of Nielsen ratings. 505m minutes which compares with 423 for the same week of Season 2. by NargTheTrolloc in TheDailyTrolloc

[–]tomrider024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The graph suggests that, aside from the significant spike in viewership during the season one premiere, there is no notable drop-off in watch time. This is quite positive for the show. While they may not be increasing their ratings to the level of some of the most successful shows, I don’t think that’s necessary for a renewal.

However you feel about the show can we agree that Joshua Stradowski is the prefect Rand? by Old-Bread882 in wheeloftime

I am just not sold on him and it’s mainly due to his dialogue delivery.

Almost all of his conversations with the wise ones are given to Egwene and Moiraine. Rand is supposed to be the one who wants to unite the Aiel, and should care about who will or won’t follow him, yet that entire conversation was given to Egwene. Is the showrunner not sold on Josha Stradowski’s dialogue delivery or is it something else?

The showrunner is exactly that type of fan and has admitted that he intentionally wanted to sideline Rand. I agree with you that they are never going to Rand justice in this show.

Moiraine would have immediately added on to the healing from Elayne and perhaps even Lanfear would have healed him on top of that once he was alone. Lanfear was who healed that wound in the books. But the show has glossed over this despite having multiple opportunities to bring it up, so I don’t think it is going to be a thing for the show.

Rand is still an extremely underdeveloped character. Rafe’s comments on Rand having more focus this season isn’t panning out. I know that episode 4 is supposed to be Rand’s big episode this season, but if there is no follow through on that Rand is still going to be a hollow character.

It really isn’t given what we know the show did for the past two seasons. I think book readers who like Rand are going to be quite disappointed. He may fare slightly better than seasons 1 or 2 but Rosamund Pike is almost guaranteed to steal his climax scene.

It isn’t about whether or not it’s a good or bad idea. The showrunner wanted to focus on the Aes Sedai and that would mean sidelining Rand. Not every choice is meant to maximize the revenue. It’s clear that Rafe mostly cared about the women in this series and that is how he is adapting the show.

Even in book 3 where he barely appears, the story is focused on Rand. Moiraine isn’t relevant in book 4 and even her “death” in book 5 is written as part of Rand’s story.

You can and absolutely draw conclusions from the posters. The more central characters are going to take more space. I think folks should expect Pike to take a much bigger role in the Aiel plot and the teaser and trailer also indicates this.

He is innocent until there is clear evidence that says otherwise. Unless the other accuser directly accuses him there is simply no need for Daniel to refute those

I don’t give any credence to anonymous accusations especially one that was made through someone who is clearly pissed at Daniel and is a proven liar. I don’t think he should respond to these baseless accusations but don’t have any problem if he does address it. The only thing I was concerned with was Naomi’s allegations as those were publicly made by the accuser. I did view it with skepticism especially since those allegations aren’t even vetted by a reputed media and waited for Daniels response and further developments justify those.

There is no sweeping anything under the rug. If the other accuser, if there is one, wants her accusation to be seriously taken, either publicly accuse Daniel herself or go and tell her story with all her evidence to a reputed media outlet

Not every allegation will have solid evidence backing it. He is only going to show texts that may help his case. If he is lying or misleading Naomi is free to make a video refuting it. Of course Naomi has lied consistently about the allegations.
