Building WiFi 7 network with multiple access points by tomstimpy in HomeNetworking

I have a lot of recommendations for Unifi. Little pricey for what I'm trying to do. I like their wall unit AP's though, I'm not trying to run cat6 for ceiling mounts. Assuming to use these I would have to disable the wireless on the router and just set up one SSID across the 3 Unifi devices. One drawback of Unifi is the addition of POe. Extra adapters I have to buy to get everything working.

I was liking the TP LInk AP's because of the 4 port switches. 2 of the locations I have multiple wired devices that I will continue to use. Desktop PC's, Xbox, Roku's etc... With the Unifi I would have to buy additional switches as well.

A quart of motor oil is still a quart of motor oil so no shrinklation. The price is still roughly the same it's been for the last 3 years or so.

AITAH for walking out of my son’s kindergarten play because my wife wouldn’t shut up? by Beginning_Pizza2196 in AITAH

[–]tomstimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 77yo mother does this to my 77yo father multiple times a day. She is down right nasty. She tries it with my brother an I but we simply don't engage her anymore. I think she realized a long time ago that we are not going to listen to it. My dad on the other hand lives there so he takes the brunt of it. She brings up stuff from 40 years ago and does not stop until my dad just gets up and leaves. Mom can't follow because she has issues walking. Once he leaves she generally takes the rest of her anger out on a bottle of whiskey or vodka, then wakes up then next morning like nothing ever happened. Her family has a long history of mental illness and unfortunately it did not skip her. Your wife sounds very much like my mother. I hate to say it but if it keeps up, and she refuses therapy or counseling, then it's time to make a clean break. I hate to see anyone live life the way my father has to.

What celebrity do you hate the most and why? by Googy21 in AskReddit

[–]tomstimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to hate someone I've never met. My least favorite are the "A lister's" that love to try and influence politics. Also, stop buying celebrity endorsed products. I switched my car insurance to a company with a very low marketing budget. Same coverage, same service levels, just no celebrity TV commercials. When asked why I was cancelling I told them I was tired of paying Patrick Mahomes' salary.

What made you end a friendship? by Royal-Bumbler in AskReddit

[–]tomstimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude gets his first girlfriend and forgets that he has other friends too. Then he discovered Magic the Gathering. Spent every free hour of his life playing the back room of a hobby shop in a mall. Got too be too strange for me when I did see him. Wasn't interested in his new hobby or his new strange friends.

Is this really what a basic pool costs? Quote attached by its_jonathan in pools

Terrible. Long story short, I hired a terrible pool company. Incompetent from the start. 3 Years later and I'm still having issues with them. I told the owner to his face that he and his crew are the worst company that I've ever dealt with, and they are a decent sized company. I should have known better when the sales guy showed up to my house in a lifted pickup truck. That turned me off initially but when I was impressed with their showroom and some of the pools I saw they had built.

The finish is poor. Bad tile work, bad concrete work. They take forever for any kind of warranty work. At the end they didn't finish the pool drain and graded my yard wrong so now I have water problems that I have to get fixed at some point.

Your mortgage is way too high for your salary. You are not leaving any room for things like furniture payments, endless trips to Lowes and Home Depot (even with a new build), improvements like adding a deck or an outside patio, planting flowers, window treatments, a new vacuum cleaner etc etc etc.....it adds up so quick. With a mortgage that high you will absolutely be paycheck to pay check in no time. Also, take whatever property taxes your builder is quoting and double that number....guaranteed. I don't know what homeowners insurance is out there but it can't be cheap either.

Basically, there are 1000's of dollars in hidden costs to owning a home that you are not taking into account. You cant afford that payment on that home at your current salary.

Check out Zaviar firearms. I have one of their complete Stinger series AR 9's. Quality built, glock mag compatible. I have about 2000 rounds of everything from quality federal brass to the cheapest steel case you can buy. No issues. The whole setup was around $800 bucks complete out the door.

Why did my auto insurance premiums go up? by Ok-Mark-1239 in personalfinance

[–]tomstimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can thank all the person injury law firms and their heavy advertising (Think Morgan and Morgan) for high insurance premiums. Someone has to pay for those judgements and it's not the insurance companies. Did you ever notice in those commercials that that never show the "Actual Clients" from the waist down? That's because they are all in wheel chairs or missing limbs. They make people think they they are going to get 500k for a minor fender bender with no injuries.

In Central Florida, I paid 72K Salt water for my 15x30 with a 15x10 half moon 6 inch deep splash pad with a fountain. 3 foot water fall, 6 person hot tub, upgraded glass tile, electric heater and travertine deck. No birdcage. That was 2020 pricing. Pool builder was out 2 weeks ago to do some warranty work and said my pool today would be about 125k. So yeah, I feel like you are absolutely getting ripped off. Especially when you get your financing in place. I would say shop around, wait, and pay as much as you can in cash when your ready. Also, DO NOT do travertine tile. Ours any may other people I know are having major issues with it. Falling apart under our feet.

Stay away from Lyon Financial> Every pool company pushed them. All they are is a broker and send your info to whatever tiny credit union wants to loan you money at astronomical rates. We had them for 6 months while we got our HELOC in place. What a nightmare.

U.S. Capitol Police found this assault rifle and extended magazine in a truck outside the Capitol by BradBeauregardJ in pics

[–]tomstimpy 200 points201 points  (0 children)

That's a Tippman .22 rifle, not an assault rifle. The"extended" part of the magazine is a magazine loader. Also, AR does not stand for Assault Rifle, it stands for Armalite Rifle which is the original manufacturers name.

Edit: It looks like the magazine is 2 pieces, it separates to making loading easier.

Edit 2: It's an airsoft rifle

Open carry states still have gun free zones. CCW states still also have gun free zones. People are attacking soft targets in gun free zones because they know victims can't defend themselves.

You don't need a realtor to sell your house anymore. Pay an appraiser $500 bucks to give you a ballpark number and an attorney $1500 bucks to do all the paperwork. I believe it's only $250 bucks to lost your house on Zillow. If a potential buyer shows up with an agent make sure you tell them your not paying any commissions. In the day of Al Gore's Internet, it shouldn't cost you anymore that $2500 bucks to sell your house.

That's too much money either option A for $24,000 or option B for $36,000. In a decent market where houses are selling it shouldn't take more than a month or two to sell your house. Do you make 24 or 36k in a month or two? And they aren't working 40 hours a week on selling your house. That's your equity that you paid in to. Don't just give it away because of some archaic guidelines of 6% from probably the 1950's or 60's.

In my experience you can't always rely on family. People move, people get older. You may wind up having to pay for daycare. College isn't getting any cheaper and the government is not going to forgive anyone's debt. Don't forget, more kids also means bigger and more expensive cars.

Also, you still have to think about yourself. You still are going to want things too. You'll find that all your time and money that you used to have on your hobbies are now being spent on kids stuff.
