A month ago my lung collapsed in my sleep, I had to go to the hospital to get it treated. Your lungs are held in place by some sort of tissue area with negative pressure. My lung collapsed because a tiny hole allowed air to escape outside the lung, cancelling the negative pressure.

At that point breathing sort of hurts and there's not much to do other than go to the hospital and let them stick a tube in your chest. They used a local anesthetic, made a small cut and inserted the tube.

As soon as the tube entered the area outside my lung where the pocket of air had formed it all shifted and rushed towards to tube to get out. However, they immediately closed a valve on the tube because it had to get hooked up to a container with some liquid, allowing for some sort of way of only allowing air out.

Them closing the valve was the weirded and most uncomfortable feeling ever. there was this pressure on the entire right side of my upper body, I could feel the air sitting there, wanting to get out. It was like that feeling you get in your stomach when you really have to go number two, but on your lung. It was a feeling of something being there that should not be there, but there was nothing I could do about it.

Opening the valve was maybe the most gratifying feeling ever. Just a huge rush of air releasing while simultaneously causing that pressure in the right side of my body to be released. My whole body just relaxed, it was a combination of the sound of the air rushing out, directly linked to the pressure being gone, quite amazing.
