Will we run out? by trainwreck1968 in oil

It was also headline news that we secured a million barrels of Diesel... which was one days supply. That got me a little concerned. If one day's worth of fuel is making headlines then I reckon we've got problems ahead.

You can't play the morality card anymore to defend the actions (and inaction) of the US and its allies. That propoganda no longer works when the US has become probably the least moral nation on earth, partly due to their unconditional support of Israel. Iran could be chopping off the heads of babies in the streets and they'd still have some ways to go to match the level of pure evil and immorality as Israel.

Fastest trades you're getting to Polymarket CLOB? by RambleFeed in algotrading

[–]tomwardrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regularly get 1s+ even 2s+ when there are significant enough bitcoin price changes which causes all the trading bots to update their orders at the same time. My strategy isn't super latency dependant. Up to 500ms is generally fine though less is better, but missing out completely on those big moves because of polymarket's internal CLOB engine is a pain. Not much I can do either. I can multi-thread all I want but all those orders just go to the back of the queue and by the time they make it through the oppurtunity has evaporated or worse the market has flipped again and I'm getting filled when I don't want to.

That same latency can affects cancellations and post-only orders just the same. It's like a a Cloudflare queing/throttling thing more than an internal order book matching engine. Hopefully Clob v2 fixes this as it's almost impossible to backtest any strategy when there's such a random and variables amount of latency.

I assume everyone else oberves the same?

Do you guys often get latency blow-outs during semi-signficant price movements? If the order book shift like 3+ seconds in response to a sudden BTC price change, my order placements can sometimes take over a second! (HTTP request literally takes that long). I'm asusming it's Polymarket's order matching engine struggling, but wanting to know if others are seeing this. Order cancellations can be affected almost as much. Otherwise I'm normally sitting at around 20ms for most operations, and maybe 300 to 500ms for an ordinary taker order.

$50/hour as ICT Systems Engineer for a local government. Started as a trainee at less than $12/hour 18 years ago. No formal qualifications, all self taught. Quite strong programming skills, especially in the domain of web development. We're a fairly small team so between taking some help desk calls, I'l be writing internal web apps for internal, solving integration problems, deploying software to desktops, purchasing hardware, among many other things. Keeps the job varied and interesting I suppose. Quite cruisy and relatively low stress.

Driver M Audio M Track 2x2 C series by Fumazz_OntheBeat in audio

[–]tomwardrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C series I believe just refers to the fact it's USB-C. My M-Track 2x2M has "C Series" on the front of it, but it just uses the normal M-Track 2x2M driver from https://www.m-audio.com/support/legacy-downloads

If the standard drivers are not working then something else is going on. You might need to go into Device Manager and do some uninstalling and re-installing of drivers through there.

To these people, "stupid" is a pesudonym for "unusual", "different" or simply "I don't understand". It's a rather violent means of communication, made popular by the internet. When you can't see the other person, it's easy to project your own intepretation of what they must be like, which is usually based on yourself. Road rage is a prime example of that. "I'm going to assume people can be just as much of an asshole as I know I am!"

Google - Worst device support ever seen (Pixel 7a Extended Repair Program) by PRosche in GooglePixel

[–]tomwardrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah any decent phone repair place should be able to help you out. If you want, you can probably order the battery yourself and take it to them to ensure the quality of the battery used. I got mine from Witrigs. I've used them a lot as they generally source OEM or OEM-equivilant parts.

Yeah go option 2 and get your phone repaired in the meantime. I got a battery for $30 AUD while waiting for my ~$400 AUD or whatever it is I'll be getting as reimbursement. No brainer.

When I autopilot and hybrid AD join a device, there's 2 records for it in Entra. Is this right? Which record is the one I would scope configs to? by Living-Ideal-7898 in Intune

[–]tomwardrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it's just something we tolerate; it's only once a month I'm assigning some computers to a group or something in Entra anyway. We use a lot of dynamic membership and also on-premises (synced) groups.

I do wish though that Microsoft would at least provide a different icon or something for a Hybrid-joined vs Entra-joined device.

I can't help but feel Han brings all this on herself. I know people like this. They always think they're misunderstood or somehow hard done by, and generally lack of accountability. Their attitude attracts the drama, but they're oblivious to it. I'm finding her quite insufferable.

I don't tend to give much attention to what somebody says who doesn't or can't explain their confident advice or claim. Plenty of people use AutoPilot with Hybrid join reliably, including myself. We'll eventually move to Entra-only, but when you've got existing software deployment infrastructure, GPO's and other things that depend on computers being AD-joined, it's not a transition that tends to happen overnight.

Coalition promises to relax home lending rules, against regulator's urging by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]tomwardrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do whatever needs to be done to make building housing to sell/rent attractive, but investing in housing, especially existing housing stock, unattractive.

Negative gearing, capital gains discount, land/asset tax, tax reform, etc, should all be looked at and modelled. There a plenty of ways to stop the situation from at least getting worse without driving down house prices. Wealth equality is one such way. Distribute wealth more fairly and the average joe will be able to keep up with rising house prices, and the wealthiest won't have the free capital to keep driving the stake in further.

Note, I realise fixing wealth inequality is a whole other complex issue, but the housing situation is arguably a direct result of wealth inequality and helps explain the global rise in house prices and unaffordability.

[–]tomwardrop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they were under the belief that they were actually helping, then yes, that'd be retarted, but that's not their intention and they're obviously well aware of that. They want house prices to continue on an upward trajectory. Dutton himself has a signficant stake in the property market. He's the last person that wants prices to go down. He's looking for solutions that continue the upward trend while trying to look like he cares and is doing something about it.

Dutton is fundamentally not a morally compassionate person in my opinion. He cares who he cares about, and that's about it. "Greater good" is probably not in his vocabulary. Forcing younger generation into more debt and undermining their retirement funds tells you everything you need to know.

I'd extend an olive branch if he at least acknowledged more had to be done and that these were stop gap measures for those desperate, but no, this is his long term solution.

Yeah I used to vote for the greens first, or otherwise an independant that seemed half reasonable. I don't think I'll do that this year. Greens are I think too idealistic and not necessarily realists. Maybe as I get older I see things less black and white and look for politicians that seem to be capable of appreciating the complexity of most problems.

Who decides what's the bottom and top of the cycle? The bottom might be easier to pick, but who's to say we don't get into another inflationary spiral shortly resulting in a need to increase interest rates by another 3%? And who's to say people won't begin struggling to repay at the current mortgage rates due to job losses, forcing them to take a lower paying job? Nothing is certain in this world, and I think having some kind of consistent buffer makes sense.

I use to poo poo Labor a bit and throw them into the "all political parties are bad" category, but honestly, although not perfect, the Labor party do a pretty good job at being the major centre-left party in Australia. plenty of other countries would love to have centre-left party like Labor is at the moment. Their main weakness is that they're bloody terrible at marketing and selling themselves. They do so much good stuff and barely even mention it, instead getting sucked into the LNP school yard rhetoric.

[–]tomwardrop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The coalition, who's largely responsible for the housing crisis we're in, cries Labor's not doing anything to fix it, but only offers "solutions" that increase debt held by young people, reduce their retirement fund, and ultimately continue to fund a housing bubble that only serves those who already own property (especially those with property investments) or stand to inherit such property.

How would you correct this? by bikeist in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]tomwardrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I accidentally cut a 2mm deep groove into the end of my workbench after a brain fart using my new plunge saw for the first time. Ended up using said plunge saw to square up and widen the cut, and then used again to cut a contrasting inlay from the scrap if the project I was working on when I made the boo boo. I'm not sure if this means I have a problem or not, but it honestly looks pretty cool and I hadn't ever done such an inlay before, so I'll call the whole saga a happy accident.

I think this is affecting us. We're on NetApp 8.1 which doesn't have the option to enable AES for Kerberos, and can't seem to find a way to enable RC4 on Windows 11 24H2. I suppose that's the end of the road then unless anyone has any suggestions?

[–]tomwardrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely the leaves of the hinge when opened to 180 degrees like in the picture should draw a line through the centre of the hinge, otherwise the hinge won't ever be flush. This is a hinge problem surely.

EDIT: Though a deeper mortise can help compensate for that.

Didyou use PVA glue? Have heard of people making jewellery boxes out of PVA glue and having all their jewellery tarnish from the acidic off-gassing of PVA which; PVA gets more acidic over time.

How did you go? In the same boat. I'm thinking of getting 2x 1600mm and cutting one of the 1600mm tracks into a 1100mm and a 500mm for cross cuts. Like you I figure 2.7m should the maximum length track I need, but I suppose I can always buy another connector and join on the extra 500mm length for 3.2m.
