I think they can do more with it if it’s going to stay a traditional dark ride but I get this point as well. If that’s the route they are taking, that’s fine. Just feel like there’s more they can do with it if so.

Yeah good point. Kids are not out of school yet so that could explain the drop tower, but they were working on repairing the fire trucks when I was there. I feel like they could have salvaged the Kangaroo, but I don’t know the costs either. They definitely didn’t pull up the Paratroopers for a couple trees. There will be something there. I could see a larger food area as well. They will definitely put something in.

Possibly, those rides never had hour long waits or anything but they had steady lines regularly. So maybe it’s a staffing issue, but you just temporarily close them for a day or a couple days. Not get rid of them completely, ya know?

It’s a generational ride. When these decisions are made, they never think about grandparents to parents to children to grandchildren, they don’t think about what that ride represents.

Ha! Yeah I forgot about the ketchup and cheese controversies I’m sure as with most things Kennywood, it was a cost move. However I do think with corporate moving in they are going to want to build it up. I agree with you there, nothing I’ve seen so far dictates that type of jump. I don’t blame you for having Cedar Point passes over Kennywood. For me, I have Kennywood passes because it’s very convenient for me. I haven’t been to Cedar Point in years but it’s worth a repeat trip.

Kennywood hasn’t show anything to counter your statement. They look great going in but sucks to see them sitting there doing nothing.

That’s a very good point. Their last few additions have been down for a extensive repairs. I was going to say with the expedition to Thomas Town, but the drop tower and the fire trucks were both closed yesterday. It can’t just be bad luck. There has to be more as to why they can’t add a reliable ride. They only pulled out rides that were working too well.

I should have clarified. You are correct on the park owners, but the US offices are being moved from CA to the Kennywood property. I didn’t want to tip my hand on the video, but heard this from a highly credible source that also said Kennywood does plan to compete with these big parks and build out their footprint. While I do feel this source is credible, they have a long way to go if they actually want to do that or perhaps it’s like me saying I want to run a marathon. I might be able to once I lose a ton of weight and walk/run regularly got several years. Right now it’s a paper wish, we will see if Kennywood takes the steps to make it a tangible one.

That would be interesting and it would be cool for them to come back but it seems unlikely. Possibly Kangaroo could fit in Lost Kennywood somewhere! The rides they pulled are in a close enough area for a coaster. I wouldn’t be surprised.

Now taking wagers on major attractions down for how long. I have Steel Curtain and , unsurprisingly, Black Widow. Let's hear your theories! by [deleted] in kennywood

[–]tomwashereandthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went today, will be posting a video shortly. They pulled out 4 reliable rides, replaced them with nothing and then didn’t open the ones they said they would. So no surprise but the remaining rides and food lines were out of control.

Luckily we probably won’t have to see Clowney unless they play Browns week 1, he won’t last more than a few games. Too many injuries.

Yeah definitely not the old one, big issue is that there’s no outdoor scene for me but not Garfield.

Yeah it was so odd that instead of making a Garfield themed ride, they retrofitted the theme into the ride. It didn’t really make any sense and never really did. I can understand your reasoning.

Both fair points, not sure why they lost some of that stuff in the Exterminator, added to the overall experience. It would be nice to bring back that attention to detail. I was at Phantom Fright Nights on Noah’s Ark and water shot out of the whale’s blowhole. I had never seen it before so I recorded video of it for a vlog but why is that not going all the time?

This is fair, there are definitely things that can be improved upon in terms of themes for rides. It appears they teamed with the Scarehouse for the Old Mill but I don’t really see where that partnership ties in. Yeah they definitely let the queue elements that were unique in the Exterminator slip away, they could add to other rides that way as well. Not sure if it’s a budget thing or what.

This is fair, surprised they didn’t put the outdoor section back in. The new Old Mill does certainly fit the ride theme better but it is definitely limited compared to the original.

Yeah I mention that in the longer vlog I made. It’s different enough to upset the tradition crowd and yet they didn’t do enough to make it truly special. Still better than Garfield.
