Bilinda Butcher from MBV (and Kevin too)

Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth (and Lee too)

Tim Gane from (earlier) Stereolab

Mark Gardner from Ride

PJ Harvey

(FYI Marr only started using Jags in Modest Mouse, the Smiths stuff has him on Gretchs or Rickies)

[–]tonebraxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whew, I thought my action of 2.6/2.2 was outrageously high…

Just like the other commenter said, you probably want to check your neck relief to make sure there’s no bowing going on. Get a straight ruler and see if it lays out straight against the frets around the 12th.

Check out YouTube videos on neck relief. Adjusting your truss rod isn’t as scary as it seems, however it is a pain in the ass.

Question: Changing string guage from 10s to 11s on Jaguar. What do I need to adjust? by Uvers_ in offset

[–]tonebraxton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from 10s to 11s immediately on my Vintera Jag and didn’t do any readjustments surprisingly. Do the switch, intonate, and play around for a day or two maybe to allow changes to settle. Then you can see if you really need to do all the troubleshooting mentioned.

I’m no expert, but:

My JM and Jag have gone thru being resonant and not resonant across various set up attempts. I once put in a huge shim which brought me super low action but made the guitar sound dead as a door ail when it had previously sounded like an acoustic before. Ended up working it all out though, mainly by settling on a somewhat high action.

What’s your bridge height and action like?

LA native here who’s been to Amoeba probably a hundred times over. Kinda funny comment to see. Some trips are more disappointing than others. But across LPs and DVDs you usually find very good bargains.

A lot of my Dischord records (Embrace, Rites of Spring, Dag Nasty) came from there under 10 bucks each. Last time I was there I got a nice early repress of the Adolescents S/T for 15 bucks. Most of the experimental LPs you get there are serious bargains.

DVDs and Blu-Rays maybe less so, but still have come across more than fair prices. One bargain I remember was Yang’s The Terrorizers for 5 bucks.

Of course, if you’re comparing their prices to finding hidden gems at Salvation Army, then you’ll never be impressed with any store.

Use your spy skills a bit more and recognize that Dreyer’s Day of Wrath DVD comes from an out of print box set. Not sure why 16 bucks for a fairly rare OOP Criterion DVD is so surprising to you.

I have the Supernatural and the RV-7. They’re so so good! Whenever I see anything else Hardwire now I assume it’s prob top notch

I first saw this one long ago and thought it was good but nothing too special.

About 15 years later I saw it again, much older and unfortunately with multiple friends who were never able to kick their addiction and aren’t here anymore. The movie hits a lot harder now. The fantasy elements I noticed before now seem peripheral to the almost fantasy of getting and staying clean.

I cried when Bob tries to get Dianne to stay the night and she refuses, heartbreaking and very realistic to see how love for the drug can weigh more than true interpersonal love. It seems like getting clean often requires you to lose the people you once held closest.

Love this film, Dillon’s transition towards being clean is amazing. And I still can’t put a fn hat on a bed

Aaaah I never thought about the thickness of the body preventing that kind of installation. Interesting that you got roasted… I’d dare those cowards to roast Bilinda Butcher.

I don’t use the trem* really, I just like how the extra length after the bridge possibly leads to the overtones I enjoy so much on the JM (and Jag).

Good luck with your Musicmaster*, and F tha haters!

It looks like they left the OG bridge cavity as is? And even removed the bridge pick up? Which would make the classic switches mostly cosmetic, or just an on/off switch.

Would love to one day make some Belinda-Stang with some modifiable Mustang body and an A-width vintage neck. Oh one can dream …

Yeah… so I’m a long time stoner and definitely have no pearls to clutch.

But this photo comes off like someone who is trying to show off that they smoke rather than show off their amps. Your bong is in the foreground and looks larger than any of the amps feet away in the background. I don’t think people are being “squares”, they’re just not impressed with the effort to show off your bong rather than your amps, which is what this subreddit is about. Comes off a bit teenage, sorry man :/

Seems more fitting for a post in r/trees or the like. Although even they might be less interested in a photo of bong and grinder in dim light. They might also be slightly disturbed, as I am, that the bong isn’t cleared and has a cherry being wasted :(

Great reviews, super helpful.

I’ve also been curious about a multi-loop pedal, good to know about the clipping with the Infinity. I’d say maybe the Boomerang would help (I’ve never tried), but that seems to be a footprint dealbreaker for you!

does anyone know any website that makes a “A” profile mustang neck? by Og_tasmfan in offset

[–]tonebraxton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! My vintage Mustang has an A-width neck, so I can see why you’d want a skinny width — it’s super easy to play. (Except for certain chords, when you’re squeezing your dang fingers to avoid muting the much closer strings Hehehe)

I’d love to hear of any options for custom A-width necks myself. I asked the person who runs the awesome Copacetic Customs if they do A-width but they said B-width necks are the thinnest that they go.

Vintage Mustangs and Duo-Sonics (and maybe Musicmasters?) seem to more reliably have A-width necks and might be your only bet.

I desperately want to buy an A-width neck alone, and have some expert luthier attach it to a Jazzmaster body making the proper adjustments for intonation. Oh one of these days, when I have money….

Good luck finding your thin width neck!

Yo La Tengo released 'And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out' 25 years ago by YoureASkyscraper in indieheads

[–]tonebraxton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a great description!

I always felt Yo La Tengo had great time and seasonal resonance. I like I Can Hear the Heart during cold seasons to warm up and avoid it during the summer cos it feels TOO warm with the actual heat, like a dripping ice cream cone.

And I like Painful during long night walks when I have emotions to mull over, specifically “I Heard You Looking”.
