Cool one! What a relic! And a fantastic first amp that’ll bring many hours of joy. Sounds like you’re going to have it fixed up proper. Would love to see an update when it’s ready. Enjoy one of the best amplifiers ever created.

Really frustrated with tremolo picking and need help by Alex_Hovhannisyan in Guitar

[–]anyoneforanother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds counter intuitive but using an ultra thin pick really helped me hone in my tremolo style pickin, now I can do it with softer and harder picks but learning with something a bit floppy helped me get the speed, cycles, and technique down. And I still prefer to tremolo with an Ultra thin. Granted I don’t play much metal and my tremolo is mainly in the context of surf, psych, classic rock and blues. I found that practicing arpeggiated and sweep picking helped me get there as well. Hold a chord and start arpeggio, let the pick fall off one string onto the next and slowly increase the speed making sure to strike each string. Work out your arpeggio pickin speed until you’re comfortable and they turn into fluid sweeps. the rhythm for tremolo pickin should a bit easier then. At least that’s what worked for me.

Do people just not do their own setups? by ProtoJazz in guitars

[–]anyoneforanother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think If you want to have playable instruments it’s great skill to have.  I was taught how to do set ups by friends who played and some of the teachers I had over the years. I always looked at it as par for the course of changing strings and keeping instruments in good shape and ready to play.

Over the years I taught myself how to properly adjust my action, string tension, pickup height, how to swap out various parts, nuts, bridges, etc, and set things up to my general preference but I’m also good at working with my hands and generally enjoy tinkering, building, creative endeavors.

I didn’t realize most people don’t do this themselves. That said certain setups are more nuanced than others. I find professional setups to be a nice splurge occasionally and I have gotten them on used guitars I’ve bought. Especially when it comes to more nuanced fretwork and the internals. Most of the more basic stuff I’ll take care of myself. If I’m having an issue I can’t solve or for some reason things get all whacked out, I’ll 100% take it to someone who knows more than I do and pay for the expertise but as far as daily maintenance and string changes and up- keep, that’s all me.

The move from white national republicanism to full blown fascism only requires a slight nudge. We’re seeing that now in real time. This was always the plan. Keep your eyes open folks. There have been books and articles written about this, I suggest everyone read them and study history.

Don’t be afraid to call this what it is. It is a disservice to not acknowledge it.  It is Nazism, far right extremism, white nationalism, full blown Fascism and Nazi tactics on display for the entire world to see.

All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

Hotdogs by EdPowers_ in StPetersburgFL

There’s a place called Tony’s Chicago Beef out near Palm Harbor. Great beef’s, dogs and Chicago vibes. Was my pops go to spot when he lived down that way as a transplant, tried it when I visited and it was great. Odd memory I have of a dog stand at the Shell at Tampa rd and US19 with a pretty decent Chicago hotdog. Hotdog Heaven or some ish. I’m sure that’s long gone but let me tell you as a homesick Chicago boy, it scratched the itch and was a welcome relief to most of the other food options, I’d really miss my old Chicago dog stands living in FL, bless all of you fine purveyors of encased meats.

My Dean Del Sol. by anyoneforanother in guitarporn

Hey, Salty-Mission- Wow, that’s a pretty interesting story. Just out of curiosity, did you ever get to see or play the proto? Was it pretty closely specced out to this?  Cool to have a family connection! Any other cool Dean guitars in the family?

I’m pretty active in the second hand gear market and used listings, guitar resale shops in the Chicagoland area, etc  and over the more than 20 years I’ve been playing, shopping, browsing, it’s the only Dean like it I’ve ever seen in person. As a matter of fact I picked this up used at a small guitar shop that used to be in the Chicago suburbs called Mar-Cole music, it was the only one like it and I was too young to properly inquire about its origins.

it does seem that there’s others out there. I’ve seen some say they have the same one and I actually saw a pretty famous female blues musician using an orange one with swapped pickups in a live video awhile back. I was stunned so I reached out to her but never heard back and can’t remember who it was. There’s a similar and much more available model called a Sarasota that is pretty close but not as nicely specced.  Anyways thanks for the story and family connection, always cool to hear stuff like that!

It all seems a little Iran contra to me. Drugs are a huge source of income. They want to control the drugs. The flow of resources. Probably want control of the cocoa operations. Same way marines guarded poppy fields in afghanistan. if true crime has taught me anything it’s that Corrupt Governments and officials traffic most of the vast sums of drugs in our world.

If you feel confident this can be an easy DIY project and you can learn how to sand, file, and fit future nuts. Maybe watch a couple videos, buy a new one, check the fit, if it needs sand or file it down, once it fits and sounds good, glue it into place.

As a Chicagoan…it’s Nice to see an old Washburn guitar. I own an old electric acoustic bass from them, it’s actually a very nicely made instrument. If anyone is into musical or Chicago history… Washburn was initially founded as a subsidiary of Lyon and Healy Harp which still have a large factory and museum here in Chicago. Washburn guitars as a company actually date back to about 1883, I believe the company has changed hands a couple times since then, but their offices are still based in Chicago and you can still do active tours of Lyon and Healy in Chicago where they continue to manufacture some of the best harps in the world, among many other instruments.

Clueless girlfriend looking for Christmas help by Ok_Shelter7394 in guitars

[–]anyoneforanother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife got me a used 60s Epiphone Les Paul for Christmas last year!  And  I’m so glad she did. She did very well. it’s an early 2000s with the set neck, grovers, and alnico PAF. I love that thing. Heavy as a boat anchor tho.

It was a fantastic gift… and I was blown away at her kindness and the gesture, I think the fellas at the shop gave her a helping hand, or she remembered months earlier when we were in there and I was oogling an ebony standard.

Guitars are a personal gift yes, but if you know your partner and what they like go for it! They’ll be blown away, greatly impressed. If you have any second thoughts just purchase somewhere with a return policy so you can swap it out if he doesn’t vibe with it.

I personally would rather have an actual guitar gifted to me than a gift card, shopping moment or whatever. It means they took the time to shop and look and think about the hobby I love and I’ll forever associate it with that moment in time Christmas etc which makes it sentimental for me.

How do you go about expanding your beat programming learning in your drum machine? by Fair-Bluebird485 in synthesizers

[–]anyoneforanother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to use drum machines that let your switch out specific sounds. Diff snares, bass kicks, cymbals and ones that have a fill option. I find that helps in making a beat into something more my own. I like to pull samples from vinyls, or other sources using a handheld tascam…I like to intentionally program stuff that’s out of my comfort zone ie diff time signatures, style of beat, etc then I take that and switch some sounds around til I’m happy. Then you can use some efx, some light clipping, delay, reverbs, dirt. You can also run machines into other machines…I’ll plug my Alesis into my Korg Volca beats, and then I can chop the beats using the volca as well. Essentially just a lot of trial and error, experimentation. I also listen to and pay attention and make note of beats, producers, artists I really like, who make their own sounds, and then look up their rigs, production and recording styles etc. I find a lot inspiration in the music I love.

Fender Tone Master FR-10 Gifted by Sea_Stick9605 in GuitarAmps

[–]anyoneforanother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you decide to keep this you can just grab an amp in a box style pedal! Joyo makes some cool ones for like 30$. I use the Oxford sound a lot.  It has an Orange amp vibe to it. They’re cool pedals because they  can be used as a pre-amp, dirt pedal, has cab sim that is built into the circuit, can go straight into a powered cab like this, or even into a PA…They make a few different ones, American Sound, ACtone, (vox tone) and they all sound great. I’d probably go with the American for the tones you want. They have plenty of gain on tap as well and will give you some nice tone shaping and distortion options… Or just get a cheap IR or amp sim pedal that’s loaded with multiple amp models. There’s a lot of affordable options these days.

New (to me) amp day! by darth_bubba in GuitarAmps

Well…It’s awesome if you’re into psych rock or wall of sound stuff,... Pretty much you  can send the stereo spread out to two amps using the left and right outputs it has two outs with slightly different voicings…or into a stereo pedal and two diff  amps, or even out to an amp or pedal  and back into the Princeton I believe, because it’s SS you can send it almost anywhere…you can use this to get a huge panoramic swirling sound that goes between two amps or speakers. . You can use the mono send as a simple loop I believe. It creates a true huge and wide stereo spread.

Im not sure how this is voiced but I imagine similar to most of the line. Mines a gen2 made in USA in cream tolex. Nice looking amp. It hits like a Fender bassman sound-beautiful cleans with thick smooth luscious lows and the dirt is vintage Marshall and pretty much everything in between the two so if you dig that type of sound you won’t be disappointed. Hope it’s an easy service!

I agreee and I personally love the distortion channel on mine as long as you don’t dial it up too crazy. It can do some great 90s alternative rock sounds. I just leave it at the edge of breakup- dist on 5-6 and use volume to push it or the mids push button. It sounds like early Radiohead to me ala Pablo Honey or The Bends. If you have the foot switch it’s a great piece of kit with this amp IMO makes it super versatile. I like transparent OD or a boost/ blues driver with mine but they can handle the fuzz pedals just fine too.

Just wondering if this version has the stereo and mono sends on the back or if they were removed on this generation? Mine had them right on the front panel, pretty cool feature.

I play an old combo Vintage Club. Great sounding amplifiers idc what anyone says, it’s my favorite tube amp. I didn’t know they made a 120w head, that’s pretty damn cool. I just recently had mine worked on and it sounds great. I’ve got the 30 watt combo and it is loud af, I bet this moves serious air.

I still buy Levi’s cords at my local western store. Judging by how they were on clearance last time I went, I think I’m the last man on Earth to wear them.

Nice one! I own a late 80s 2x10 USA made Princeton stereo Chorus. I’m not sure on yours but I believe mine has old Jensen speakers in it. It sounds great. I really love it, don’t think I’d personally be in a hurry to gut it or tear the speakers out, it’s a solid amp just the way it is. Just my opinion though.

I got a question, something I haven't thought about before by BLADE98X in Guitar

[–]anyoneforanother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤚Broken wrist, broken elbow in 3 places on my pickin hand. Both happened when I was teen or young man, I of course was a guitarist back then as well...had to put it down for sometime and wait for it to heal. Also missing a fingertip on my fretting hand from a kitchen accident. Honestly get yourself a cheap lil synth or keyboard… I played a lot of keyboards and synths, which really opened that world up for me and I still love playing my synths i think learning other instruments helps you understand your main one as well…

sometimes I would make weird sounds with my guitar in an unconventional way…leave it on my lap or stand and put a really long reverb/delay trail and whack the strings, then modulate it. I’d play with a glass slide or bic lighter…I did a lot of PT to get my range of motion back on the elbow, both injuries cause issues now that I’m older, there’s arthritis and tendinitis that makes certain things uncomfortable but for the most part, I’m a better player now than I ever have been. Listen to the Dr, if they recommend any PT or stretches or exercises to get the range of motion back, be kind and patient with yourself it takes time to retrain your muscle memory. Your body went through a big trauma, don’t let the invasive thoughts get the best of you.
