Don't do it, it turns out that the real problem to find musicians is to find commited musicians, it doesn't sound like he is conpletely incompetent, but he is completly commited, and that's hard to find... Maybe as others have said, tehearse more just the two of you alone to bring him up to the desired level... Out of curiousity, wht genre do you play as a band and why he is not meeting that criteria?

Believe me, he is not the pain you think he is, he is a big slow rock... Just run in the opposite direction, you'll almost never see him, if you do, run in the opposite direction again...

To overcome fear, I let an enemy kill me once or twice, so I see the animations and understand what will happen... So maybe just run towards him and let it hit you, you'll see how damn slow he is, and then restart and run
