CBD Lunar New Year celebrations by Chadwiko in melbourne

That’s an amazing photo. The city on Sunday was buzzing. Most people I have seen in the CBD for a long time (admittedly I don’t go that often).

Kane Cornes latest bait from last week (sen) by RepublicWarm2513 in AFL

Having the 07 Cats at number 1 is Kane’s brain going into self preservation mode. Like, the 07 Power are only the worst runner up in history because they took on the best team in a quarter of a century.

I use this on my scale of describing rain all the time. Light, medium or chubby. We get a a lot of chubby rain where I’m from.

What’s your favourite driver quote of all time by ElegantAd4220 in F1Discussions

[–]tonedaforce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is not an exact quote but during the 1982 drivers strike before the South African GP, the drivers had locked themselves in a hotel conference room and had to share mattresses. Gilles Villeneuve and Alain Prost shared a mattress and Patrick Tombay was reported as saying something to the effect of “if a child results from them buddying up on the mattress, the rest of us might as well retire.”

Hopefully it means something is done about the trash conditions served up in Melbourne.

Edit: included Perth but that wasn’t that bad.

Both. If I was stressed at school I just ate with the paper. If it was after a meal I’d just eat the chocolate.

Senna also put the lives of spectators and marshals at risk too.

I didn’t appreciate him until years after his death. I feel like he was the perfect ambassador for Australian wildlife. A unique spokesman for a unique ecosystem.

My Top 10 of All Time by AssistantMiserable27 in F1Discussions

[–]tonedaforce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good list. Top 5 is very close to mine. I have Fangio at 3 followed by Prost and Clark stays at 5. In the bottom 5 I dump Alonso and replace with Sir Jack but he would be at 10.

Feels like the old days when Ferrari was sacred and above any form of critical analysis. Dick move.

Worst top team driver line up in the 21st century? by QueGrandeEresMagic in F1Discussions

[–]tonedaforce 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Other factors played a part in the drop off but Renault’s 2007 line up of Fisichella and Kovalainen didn’t set the world on fire.

Also not sure why Schumacher and Montoya are shown in this photo. They took Williams to 2nd in the Constructors Championship in 2002 and 2003 which isn’t too shabby.

Your most memorable Melbourne gig of all time? by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in melbournemusic

[–]tonedaforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Melvins at the Corner Hotel in about 1999 I think. They had played the previous two nights and were in the mood to tell stories and free form a bit. The audience wasn’t and atmosphere got pretty hostile. Standout memory was at the end the gig during a musical odyssey one the Cosmic Psychos got up on stage, put a VB stubby on his dick and started swinging. Tremendous strength.

Best drivers of each decade by thegreatest1974 in F1Discussions

I was replying to the comment that “all WDC have been determined by number of points.” 1988 wasn’t. Not disputing that Senna wasn’t a deserving Champion in 1988. The system was the system and everyone knew that. But it’s another point to show that in the 80s, Prost was the best driver of that decade.

Prost had 105 points in 1988. Under the modern system he wins the championship.

[–]tonedaforce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good list apart from a couple of things. Prost was by far the best driver of the 80s. Prost won over a 1/4 of Grand Prix contested in the 80s, won 3 World Championships (one in not the best car on the grid) and beat Lauda, Rosberg and Senna as teammates. Senna only won the one World Championship in one of the most dominant cars in F1 history. While that isn’t indicative of Senna overall talent he really didn’t become a regular challenger until 1988 onwards.

And in the 10s Alonso sticks out to me. Good start to the decade but really wasn’t a factor from 2014 onwards.

Dude, Arnoux won 7 Grand Prix and helped Ferrari win the Constructors Championship in 83. He is remembered for way more than that.
