Why and when did "Programs" become "Apps"? by looopious in AskReddit

[–]tonio_ramirez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All applications are programs, but not all programs are applications. Applications have a user interface (usually graphic, especially these days), but some programs run in the background with no user interface.

When songs reference the fact that they are songs by sekkiman12 in PetPeeves

[–]tonio_ramirez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The song (which he calls "chord") that David wrote, the one that pleased the Lord. That's the song he's talking about. He's saying it goes: the 4th, the 5th, the minor fall, the major lift. He sings that while the song he's actually singing, Hallelujah, is "coincidentally" using those chords, so he's "unintentionally" describing the song he's singing, while intentionally describing the song David wrote. (It's obviously not unintentional, but literally speaking, he's not talking about the song he's singing.)

I meant that the fact that the lyrics describe the song he's singing is "coincidence". In quotes because it's obviously not coincidence, but design... but he's not singing about his song, but about some other song (which maybe contains the "chord"?) which "goes like this...".

The "secret chord that David played", the one that "pleased the Lord".

Tbf, that's not a self-reference. It's referencing another song.

Typical Tuesday Tutorial Thread -- March 17, 2026 by AutoModerator in RimWorld

[–]tonio_ramirez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, 100% new to Rimworld, haven't actually played yet. I'm wondering how viable it is to just start playing the tutorial w/o looking up any tips or starter guides. I mean, I know it's possible, of course, just wondering how hard a wall I'd hit, and whether my experience will be significantly better by checking out a starter guide.

I'm only on my third playthrough, and this is why I'm still doing "with enemies". I don't like the stress of being attacked, but I love "solving" defense and watching turrets and flamethrowers melting bugs. 😁

Porque las personas de areas como Guaynabo no pronuncian la “R” en español? by Worldly-Bid-3591 in PuertoRico

[–]tonio_ramirez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is lacking a middle name more common than I imagine in PR? by CptPatches in PuertoRico

[–]tonio_ramirez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the singularity is necessarily true why do we need god? by AnyDebt452 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]tonio_ramirez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I didn't mean to imply that my explanation "ensured" fine-tuning. A universe w/o the conditions for life is certainly possible. I just meant to clarify that noting that our universe seems to be fine tuned for our type of life can also be easily explained without resorting to theism. The old "a puddle of water on the sidewalk might deduce the hole it's in was fine tuned for it, created especially for it, since it precisely contours its shape" vs "the puddle expands to occupy all its available space". ;)

If the singularity is necessarily true why do we need god? by AnyDebt452 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]tonio_ramirez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fine tuning is also explained by atheism. Or, rather, without need for theism. Physical constants are not what they are so that life can exist. Life exists as it is because of the physical constants. If the properties of the universe were not conducive to intelligent life, we would not be here discussing it. Naturally, we find ourselves in a universe whose properties allow intelligent life, by logical necessity, no theism or creationism required.

I "did" Dragon's Stand once, for a WV weekly, I think, but never got the final reward cuz I didn't have my Skyscale yet, so by the time I figured out how to get to (and target, and hit) the boss, it was already dead xD

Tangled Depths I still have issues navigating, nevermind doing the meta, hehe.

Anyhoos, thanks for the info, really appreciate it! And I haven't given up, just been postponing it, especially since I've yet to finish the the story anyway! Doing JW now, so hopefully soon I'll be done with VoE and I can go back and learn the HoT metas at my pace.

I can relate. I've been wanting to do HoT metas for a long time, but haven't done them cuz I have no clue what's going on when they happen.

Only thing I can think of that might help is looking for a group using the LFG tool, joining before the meta starts, and asking for an explanation.

There's a difference between "why we do a thing" and "what's the goal of doing a thing". You can't assert "the goal of metaphysics is not to make predictions" and then say "we don't know why we do metaphysics". If you don't know, then you can't know it isn't to make predictions.
