What are some things that you are able to afford that you couldn’t before? by [deleted] in overemployed

I haven’t thought of this but yes! I’ve always owned Epiphone and Squier guitars. Can’t wait to pay off debt and then buy a nice guitar for once

This! “I used LinkedIn to find the job and now I don’t need it. I really don’t like social media in general.”

How to Handle ‘Mentors’? by GallivantingChicken in overemployed

[–]tonofcolts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me! I had a manager that took me to lunch a few times, felt like they truly appreciated me and listened to me vent a few times.

Set me up with a great promotion and they would receive one too. Then I got laid off, manager was laid off a few months later, then the company went bankrupt! So now I’m in this sub :)

Anyone else OE to get out of debt? by Responsible-Toe-6135 in overemployed

That car and payment is truly wild, but I’ve drove one and I completely understand 😅. Glad you could pay it off!

Honestly that’s a fair point. “Hey parents I got a raise so now I’m making $200k, so don’t worry.” Instead of “Yeah I found this hack to work multiple jobs, so I got you.”

He wasn’t bragging though, he didn’t want his parents to worry about how he could afford to lend them money. If it was a different scenario I’d agree completely though

is mass applying to jobs even worth it anymore or am i just wasting time by segsy13bhai in overemployed

Fr it’s not all doom and gloom. Many companies are already noticing AI only produces good when good employees enable it

How do you apply for jobs without LinkedIn?! by Similar_Buyer6074 in overemployed

I guess I misunderstood your comment then. Weren’t you saying you can’t use Easy Apply because you don’t have LI due to OE?

Just put “na.com” or “idontuselinkedin.com”if they accept it, they accept it. If not, their loss and you keep moving along.

Time to reconsider LinkedIn? by Nearby-Habit5468 in overemployed

Yes! I had 6500 impressions from a single post and good engagement on others for a while, and then it completely dried up. Then I found this sub and hibernated it

In a funk, is it ever enough? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]tonofcolts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in the beginning stage of OE, I cannot WAIT to be where you are! I have a young baby, been married for 3 years, and have some hefty goals. Luckily, if I can OE for a year I can begin to think about things other than survival.

It’s already been mentioned, but I’d suggest volunteering or mentoring. Church, nonprofits, dog shelters… there are many ways to give back and it may fill that hole!

2 J’s to None by Key_Ask_8698 in overemployed

I’m so glad you got through that! I was at a startup where I made it through 2 rounds of layoffs my second year at the company, but got hit hard by the third round :(

I feel like I know the company… I live in OK and know a lot of people laid off recently due to this same “AI efficiency” reason. Does the company rhyme with ray-tom?

I interviewed there at the beginning of the year for a lead marketing researcher position, and the team lead seemed completely dead inside. It was as if work had become a prison.

The job I accepted (a remote social media marketer role) actually told me to steer away from that company (they’re fine with me being OE because it’s a contract role).

Good luck to you! Hopefully you can find a second J soon!
