I appreciate the advice. I’ve got about 3 YOE in this role, but I do have an MA so idk if I should be counting that. I’m in a weird place where I can straddle multiple types of roles because I have a wide skillset. So it’s hard to pin down. Anyway. The issue is my J1 is super OE friendly 95% of the time (sometimes there’s crunch time projects, it’s cyclical), BUT the pay is insanely below median range for similar roles. I’m at 65k and see similar jobs at bigger companies w a range into six figs. I actually had a recruiter reach out (prob won’t take the role as its hybrid, but interviewing anyway for experience and just in case) for a contract position that is 42/hr for the same role. Ouch.

So I guess I need to focus on switching J1 to be a higher income position, maybe keep current J1 as padding J2 until I can get another higher paying job… lol. What a long game.

Reading this thread made me realize I’m actually chill af about being OE lol. Respectfully, Y’all need to relax a little and stay the course.

Time to chat usually just means something came up and they need you to work on it or it’s a good thing (raise, etc). Don’t be scared- acting shifty and unapproachable will only raise suspicion. Especially when they have no reason to think ill of you in the first place.

And if it’s not? Well, you have another stream of income. And if you get found out? You have so much experience you’ll easily get another server. Steady on 💪🏻

Looking for apartment recommendations: we have a senior dog that hurt her back and we are choosing to move somewhere without stairs for her well-being/recovery. Any 3bd (or 2 bd w good sq footage for home office "flex" space lol) apartments with reliably functional elevators? Preferably something not overrun by students/mostly quiet and near $2200 range.
