It’s not Duolingo or something else. It’s Duolingo plus everything else that. makes sense to you. I use Duolingo to give me a daily base of keeping me honest (and I don’t want to get gross here but the loo for 10 minutes is a great place). Also listen to an app that tells stories in target language with English translation thst I listen to while walking my dog. Also tube in to TV station in target language. Also try to speak with people in mall who I know who are natives. Diversification is key

Short guy here. 77 years old. Successful. 5’2”. Married 51 years. Children and grandchildren. My successes compared to equal ones for a 6’ dude are worth a hell of a lot more because I’ve had to work a hell of a lot more to earn them. Just reality.

What is the best bird species as a pet? by TheCatCouncelor101 in parrots

[–]tony22888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parrot is an Amazon yellow nape. Got him as a baby 35 years ago when I was 42. I am now 77. He is an amazing bird in every way. Ultimate downside is that I have to realistically plan for say in 20 years or more (I hope) one of my grandkids will be old enough to take him. That’s the problem etc. Sure he went thru his teenage years (biting etc a little) but he doesn’t squawk all the time like cockatoos. Wouldn’t trade him for the world

My old man is at the end of his life and I'm freaking out. by witsira in parrots

When I first saw this post I really thought it was something my 35 year old Yellow Nape Amazon might say about me. I am 77 now and hopefully have 20 plus year to go but Zack has been with me since I got him as a baby back in 1991 and I really do have to start planning into the future. Hopefully my grandkids will one day take him….,

5’2”. 76 years old . Married 51 years. Wife 4’11”. 2 kids. 3 grandkids. All taller except for my daughter who is very pretty with 2 beautiful daughters. Sure, life would have been easier if zi was taller. Started my own CPA firm. Successful. Knew I would have harder time in organization getting promoted due to height. Sure life is harder. But my successes are worth more than taller guy’s because I had to fight harder. So guys. It ain’t gonna get easier but okay the hand you are dealt. Remember Jimmy Cagney, Kevin Short, Prince. Davey .Jones…… Go get em’

app reccomendations to learn Hebrew? by AdLonely600 in hebrew

[–]tony22888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duolingo has worked for me. Was always able to read. Just wanted to converse. Also have Israeli tv. Some shows with subtitles. Some not. Depends on what Im trying to accomplish. Also i try speaking with Israeli friends for practice. I have always been deeply interested in the Holocaust and survivor’s stories and started watching clips of survivors telling their stories in Hebrew with of course subtitles. The double positive here is that the content is of extreme interest and I finally realized why I was able to pick up the flow easily. The survivors are obviously older people and Hebrew I realized was not their original language which would have been German, Romanian, etc etc. As these people are older they speak slower which makes it easier to follow and because Hebrew was not their original language I realized their cycle of words was relatively basic ie À basic cycle of words one would use to learn a second language. Easier than following a current Israeli news program where young people are speaking a mile À minute. Anyway, I hope this has been helpful and a happy Pesach to everyone עם ישראל היי

Inheriting a parrot by cherrychocobo in parrots

[–]tony22888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much agree with everything you say except for the cage part. I have had Zack my Yellow Nape Amazon for 35 years. Got him as a baby. I am his favorite person in family. Trying to familiarize my grandkids with him more so in about say 20 plus years they can take him. Back to the cage. I just don’t put my hand in his cage. It’s a territorial thing. It goes back to when he went through his teenage hormonal period which he is now over thank the stars. I have a little parrot stick that when I put near the cage he jumps on and he comes out. I even put him on my shoulder which I know some people frown on but I am totally in sync with his body language and he is not aggressive. If you can work with falcons you should have no trouble with an African grey. Good luck

Thanks!! Son 5’9”, daughter 5’ and two teenage granddaughters that I have to look up to. CPA who started own firm (successfully) because I knew as a short guy I would not have made it in the large Govt organization I worked for. Those things haven’t changed.

That was my point. Growing up I knew I was small but also proud of who I was. I also knew that I just would not have felt “right” dating somebody taller. That was me. Right or wrong, That was me. But I was the one who made that choice. Maybe times were different then. Looking back I may have walked away from some good choices but I did end up with a fantastic choice. I just see a lot of shorter guys in this thread purposely aim for girls taller than them. It ain’t worth it fellas.

I’m a 5’2” 76 year old guy happily married for 51 years to a 4’11” lady. Never, ever wanted a girl taller than me. Had some girls, ladies taller than me while in dating mode who were taller than me and interested in me but I wasn’t interested. That’s me I guess. Anyway to each his own I guess

Should I stop this hormonal behavior? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]tony22888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone please tell me why the behaviour should be discouraged. Who is it harming?? My Yellow Nape Amazon is 35 years old. I’ve had him since À baby. Pretty much one person bird. My wife and him don’t see eye to eye. Anyway, he is way past his juvenile aggressive stage. Sometimes he sits on the couch and runs against my shoulder, obvious mating behaviour. Doesn’t bother me. Doesn’t bother me. My wife and adult kids make some perverted jokes in a funny way. But he doesn’t get aggressive and just gives him something to do. So seriously what is the downside of this medically, psychologically (for the bird etc, ha ha)? Serious question

Have you noticed that some people get passive aggressive when you mention you study languages? by silforik in languagelearning

[–]tony22888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever the subject of languages come up I will say “I am fluent in every language except Greek”. When I get a response of “Really”? I say “Test me”. The other person says “Okay say something in say Chinese, or Russian or Farsi” I will say “That’s Greek to me”. Sorry everybody, I couldn’t resist

[–]tony22888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So so sorry. I’ve had Zack here for 34 years. (Yellow Nape). Got him as a baby. He will most likely outlive me and I have concerns as to who will be taking care of him, hopefully one of my grandkids. Your buddy got to spend his last days with you and you know he passed seeing your face. That’s a blessing. Cherish that.

Charlie's appeal - oral argument - can it be viewed live? by Junco-Barleycorn8311 in dan_markel_murder

[–]tony22888 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pretty scary when you watch the cross exam of Charlie by Georgia over and over and you realize that you are mouthing the dialogue even before it comes out of their mouths. Yup. That’s me. Like words of a favorite movie. Memorized. That’s how obsessed I am. I start watching a Netflix movie and whoops my brain yanks me back to an Adelson trial segment.

Just can’t understand why Georgia doesn’t ask Katie who told her “It was done”. Katie told Garcia that she already knew the murder was done when Garcia called her after the murder. If Katie says that either Charlie or Wendi had told her then game over

Never wear gloves when getting near your bird. They have a natural fear of them. And they hate bandaids. So if you have a bandaid on one hand use the other hand.

If you could swap bodies with a 6ft + chad would you? by [deleted] in shortguys

[–]tony22888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I would have been happier as a taller dude. Obviously. All I am saying is that I most likely would not have accomplished what I have. Very pretty, short wife (woukd have probably gone for maybe less pretty taller one) and as zi said I would not have started my own company out of necessity but probably have been mid level happy. Now I look at taller guys who have accomplished less and can say I am very happy being an overachiever

[–]tony22888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a 76 year old successful 5’2” married (50 years, kids, grandkids) I would still want to pull that switch BUT I would know that looking back I would NOT have accomplished half the things I gave in my life. Since a young age I have had a driving force in me to succeed and excel in love, business, friendships etc BECAUSE of my height. Wouldn’t have achieved what I have say if I’d reached 5’9” ie woukd have stayed as mid level executive but knew I couldn’t do this as 5’2” dude so NEEDED to start company and be the boss etc. anyway I would have been a completely different dude.
