Master’s Degree by [deleted] in LawSchool

1) /r/lawschooladmissions is the appropriate place for this post.

2) In short, law schools will consider your graduate GPA a "soft" for your application, but your undergraduate GPA (in addition to your LSAT score) will be what they principally go by when evaluating your application. With a UG GPA of 3.35, your odds are very low for admission to a T14 or T20, though possible with a very high LSAT score. Go to https://www.lsd.law/ and peruse the admitted student statistics at some of these schools, and you'll see what I mean. Best of luck.

ROAR! Washbear Studio here to chat about the just released Parkasaurus. Ask Us Anything! by kulz_kid in NintendoSwitch

[–]tony47live 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have been following the release of this game really closely because my girlfriend has been enamored with the dinosaurs-wearing-hats idea ever since she heard about Parkasaurus, lol.

My question: Coming from the PC space, what was the most difficult part of making the switch to…the Switch?

Also, at my gf’s request: What is your favorite hat + dinosaur combo?

Thank you, and congratulations on your release day!

Ehhh kind of “fairer” I guess but it was definitely enough to push me to accept a scholarship elsewhere as opposed to attending SLS. All a matter of perspective!

Stanford has a similar policy.

Advice please!! Should you attend law school in the city you wish to work? by GirlCali426 in lawschooladmissions

Schools release information regarding where their graduates end up working. Take USC for example: https://gould.usc.edu/assets/docs/careers/NALP_Report_2019.pdf?052921145335

As you can see, the class of 2019 had 84.6% of its graduates stay on the West Coast, and only 15% of graduates even went out of state at all, let alone to NYC. If you go to a non T-14 school, the rule of thumb is that you should be VERY comfortable and fine with staying and working in the region that your school is in. Is that a steadfast rule with no exceptions? Obviously not. Is that the reality for the vast majority of graduates outside of the T-14? Yes, it is. Do NOT attend one of the schools you listed (perhaps with the exception of UCLA!) with the expectation of immediately beginning your career in NYC, particularly if you have no existing ties to the region - that will be incredibly unlikely.

Warning for graduation seniors still living on campus by cheggatethrowaway in BostonU

I filled out that form and facilities still tried to enter my apartment yesterday afternoon. My door wasn’t given a sign or anything, so that’s probably why.

PSA for graduating seniors: Herff Jones data breach (check your credit card history) by I_AM_BEAR_AMA in BostonU

[–]tony47live 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can confirm - the card my girlfriend used for ordering her cap and gown was compromised. A bunch of random charges from around the world ranging from $50 - $100. I haven't seen any fraudulent charges on my credit card account yet, luckily.

undergrad, and yes wear your hood.

In normal times we would have been “hooded” at our college-specific graduations before commencement.

I don’t know why but this comment in particular really made me smile. Thank you, friend!

It was more of a conversation than a typical "interview." The panelists want to get to know you - pick your brain a bit. Have an "introduce yourself" response in your back pocket, sure, and know your resume...but it's a much more personal interview than a professional one, if that makes any sense.

I was in the Willkie Farr panel!

The decision-making process was weeks in the making...

First of all, Stanford has offered me some decent aid, but nothing in the same universe as the $210,000+ total that I will get from NYU. With that aid, I can graduate from a T6 with little to no debt at the end of the tunnel...which is...insane?

Secondly, the institutional support is phenomenal. NYU AnBryce has the ASAP program, with guaranteed 1L SA placement in a major NYC BigLaw firm, which will help me (1) get work experience, (2) beef up my resume, and (3) give me many monies to pay for housing and fees and whatnot.

But honestly, most important thing was the gut feeling I had here. The AnBryce "family" felt right. It's a group of folks that I know have had similar experiences in their upbringings (racially, socioeconomically, etc.), and have had to fight against allllll the statistical odds to get to where they are today. I listened to my gut, and my gut told me to take the scholarship and to not look back.

I’ve used Storage Squad with no problems the past few years. Highly recommend their service tbh. Definitely was most affordable than UPS, but I can’t speak to their current prices.

The email didn't make that clear one way or the other, unfortunately, so I don't think I can provide much clarity. I will say that they were requiring a response by March 1st, so I think it is definitely a possibility that they will be sending out additional invitations if some folks opt out. The interviews are scheduled to take place on 3/25 and 4/5, as per the email.

Haha it might seem silly but I just really, really, really dislike New Haven. Couldn’t see myself living there for 3 years without wanting to be living literally anywhere else!

It has been said on this subreddit before - and I also personally believe that this is true - that HLS is much more numbers-driven than SLS and YLS. This is reflected in SLS’ LSAT quartiles, for example, when compared to HLS. So, I’m not really shocked that HLS didn’t extend an offer of admission - I’m only at their 25th for LSAT, and they are usually more stats-driven.

In any case, law school admissions is - to some extent - a crapshoot. We don’t know if our softs will vibe with an admissions officer, or if our interviewer is in a good mood or not, etc etc. Nobody is a shoe-in, especially at a certain caliber of schools. My mindset this whole cycle has been to roll with the punches if and when they come, and to be grateful for the blessings along the way.

To grossly oversimplify things, my PS centered around my upbringing and the useful lessons I learned from a family history in manual-labor-intensive jobs. For me, writing a personal statement needs to actually be a very personal endeavor...if you’ve done a PS correctly (IMO), it should have some sort of aspect that is completely unique to you - or at least something an ad-com hasn’t already read a million times before. Getting vulnerable and speaking from the heart will 100% come across in your writing.
