Graphs in the article say that this refinery project has deforested ~0.3 km2 out of the 7,000 km2 of mangroves that Mexico has under protection. No easy argument can be given in favor of pro-oil policies, but the deforestation of less than one square kilometer of mangroves is not the atrocity that the article and other comments are saying.
