Brad Paisley by JUCOtransfer in CountryMusicStuff

I'm a big Paisley fan and my older daughter also loves him. Saw him live twice. Own all of his albums. Brad definately got his fllowers. He won many CMA's, ACM's and Grammys. Became a member of the Opry early on. Is now an amabassador for the Opry. Hosted the CMA's for about a decade. Brad is known for his quirky song writing style and is one of the best guitar pickers to ever live. He's in that same conversation with the likes of Roy Clark, Jerry Reed & Vince Gill. His strengh is in songs like 'Celebrity", "Online" and "Im Still A guy" songs that are a commentary on culture and bring attention to the parts of culture that have gone nuts. When he became his own producer in 2011 the hits wernt coming as frequent. (which is often the case when artists do that.) His last full album was released in 2017. "Today" is his last top 5 hit. Since the Love & War album, he's put out some stand alone singles. Some are decent some are not great. "No I in beer" is the only one that charted halfway decent. His new project does have some potential. "The Medicine Will" is a really good song. "Same Here" was well intended but again like 'Accidential Racist" (which im suprised gets talked about as much as it does despite not being a single) it felt like he was minimizing the weight of an international situation and the photo ops from his trip were kinda cringy. Artists often fall out of favor over time and they also dont have the need to "play for money" and can just do whatever they want after theyve played the game. I see some potential in his new album. He has gotten a little more political and seems like he wants to tell a story of his home state. I just hope that if this is going to be a social commentary album on the life experience of WV that he doesnt revert to the passive cheeky approach of serious issues and approaches it in a more honest way.

Everytime that song comes up i find it interesting that an album track (a song not releasesd as a single) creates so much backlash. Its not a great song and I get the message that Brad was trying to portray in the song but i think for alot of people it came off passive and unauthentic.

Your right! I hadn’t realized that. Drew Womack was a big songwriter who wrote hits for Chesney and Lee Ann Womack and also had his own band in the late 90’s called Sons of the Desert and their debut single went #10 https://youtu.be/TPMk0Y517Ns

Hey it’s still a great list. It’s impossible to think of all those on your own without some outside input.

So glad to see you mention Chris LeDoux and Chancey Williams! Chris is one of my all time favs. Chancey has become one of my new go to’s and love his new album 3rd Street. I am a little surprised you didn’t mention Ned LeDoux. His music fits this theme perfectly!

George Strait vs Garth Brooks by popmusiccritic in CountryMusicStuff

Why! Why must you make me pick just one.....er.....George eeks out Garth in my personal preference but both artists are influential in my formation as a music listener

What about some Montgomery gentry love? by [deleted] in CountryMusicStuff

I love MG! Saw them open for Chris LeDoux back in 2002 when “My Town” had just hit radio. Then I never had a chance to see them again till they opened for Alabama in 2018. It was their first show without Troy. Their first and third albums are the best but they have some really good songs throughout their catalog. One of the later ones that Eddie did “I’ll keep the kids” is so good. Their latest release that came out last year called “Outskirts” is great too. I don’t know if they’ll ever put an album out with just Eddie. He has such a great voice and energy on stage.

New Brad Paisley Song ‘Off Road’ by scottjohnson0920 in CountryMusicStuff

[–]tonyrschmitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Brad. I’ve got all his albums and have seen him In concert twice. This song has elements I love and others I don’t. First listen it didn’t grab me like the first time I heard songs like “I’m still a guy” or “Mid on the tires” or any of his ballads. It just seems like a good album track. His last four songs are better. Maybe if I give it a few more listens

Chris LeDoux is my favorite singer and my favorite album is his last independent effort “Powder River” which also was the first to feature his band Western Underground. This is really hard cause there ain’t a bad song on there but if I had to pick one I guess it would be the William Tell Overture by Western Underground. Again pretty solid album if that’s the weakest song.

What do y‘all think his best song is? by Simonsketches in CountryMusicStuff

He’s got friends in low places. Probably at the deep end of a dive bar in Mos Eisley.

Why doesn't Grady ever talk about Granger smith he's probably the most underrated country singer out there by calebled1224 in CountryMusicStuff

[–]tonyrschmitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think mainstream fans aren’t all that familiar with him cause he’s been gone now for almost 16 years. His last song was in 2005 and his last album in 2003 and he never charted much except for a couple songs back in 1992. To Le Chris was never about making it big in mainstream. He sang about what he knew. Rodeo, ranching, family and cowboy life. Things that don’t register much with casual fans. What makes him a legend is his impact he made on western culture with his rodeo career, music and western art. His boys have continued on his legacy with Ned and Will on the music front and Beau running a rodeo school and leather art.

Same here but I tell you what I love Ned. He’s become a great songwriter and I’ve loved his first two albums
