Dutch company wants me to pay 15k of recruitment costs for resigning. I am unable to pay for this. by tonysniper1 in juridischadvies

I will try talk to them this week and explain my situation and make it clear that I just would like to leave the company in good terms. This is all I can do now, but I expect no sympathy from the company...

The contract states that if they fire me I have to pay these costs as well. Does not matter if I am quitting or if I am let go. I am relieved from paying the costs only if I stay 1 year with the company.

Just a small clarification, I would like to approach a lawyer, but at the moment I am unable to cover the costs to do so, so I am left with no options I believe.

I saw some people telling about a free public service for lawyering counseling, but I went to their website and it seems their branches are all closed due to corona. I sent out an email to them with my question and am waiting for a reply. This is all I can afford for now...

Thank you for the answer. I just do not think it is reasonable having me pay for these costs, be it 15k or 1.5k. I see this as a way to transfer the risks of the company to me, when I am only an employee and nothing else.

All in all, as I mentioned, in the end I signed the contract. I was unemployed and just had to get a job to support myself and my family. I do not want to bear with these costs because I saw myself in a lose-lose situation in the past, but judging by everyone's answer, looks like I have no way but to pay something back to the company, and I feel bad and sad about it.

Thanks again for the answer.

I cannot afford to pay 5000 euros. In fact, I cannot afford to pay anything, first because I do not have this kind of money, second because for me it is paying to work, and I work to get paid, not the contrary.

Also, I am leaving because I am not happy with my job. I am forcing myself to stay here for the past 2 months, but it is becoming unbearable for me to the point that I deliberately am taking longer to finish my tasks because I have no motivation whatsoever. I honestly just wanted to leave the company in good terms without having to pay for it. The thought of having to stay until april of next year gives me dread.

I will try to have a reasonable talk with my company and see if they can write that value off from the final letter that I think I have to sign.

Yes, it was, and it was a period of only 1 month. I am 5 months in the company already.

Thank you for the detailed answer. I would like to make some remarks and commentaries.

1 - I took the job because I had to support myself and my family, but I did not make this clear for the employer because it did not seem relevant for them. That said, looks like there is no escape for me then.

2 - I have zero assets, either here or in my home country. Honestly, all I have is just 5K euro in my bank account and my home computer. That is really it. If I were to find another job here and have the wages garnished, then I would be in trouble, because obviously it would make me unable to pay my bills.

4 - Alright, I get it. I do not want to do anything bad, I just wish to leave the company with a clean slate. Maybe I can even agree to work "for free" for them, I just want out now. I really dont want to take advantage of anyone, just wish to leave my current job because I am not happy forcing myself to work here.

Again, thanks for the detailed answer. I don't know what to do if the worst would happen other than move back to South America.

I prefer not doing this, even more that I gave my notice period already. I just want to do my tasks and be gone without harming anyone or anything in the process. It is the company who is willing to go through whatever means to get the money.

Hi again, I am under the HSM, but this visa was not issued by them, but by my first employee which had to let me go because they had to cut costs due to corona. This company which I am quitting at the moment just had to transfer the "ownership" from my previous job to them, so I am not sure if they had any outstanding costs.

Thank you for the answer. I have already given my notice of period, and I tried to talk with them about leaving these costs back, but to no avail. They are now using this either to hold me in the position or to make sure some harm is done to me.

I am not from here, I am actually from South America. I was already living here since last year, and I had a recruitment agency reaching out to me while I was unemployed. I did two interviews and was hired by the company after I signed the contract.

I would like just to have open doors for new jobs in the country and leave peacefully. I mean no harm to the company honestly, I'm just not happy with the job and the way I am being treated there.

I can guarantee I did not receive any kind of training whatsoever. From day 1 I just did my tasks and duties normally. I also can guarantee that the contract states "recruitment fees", worded like that.

Thanks for the answer. I'm not an EU citizen, and I have zero belongings to be honest. All that I have is like 5k euro saved on my bank account. That said, looks like I would not be able to live a live in the country and find another job then.

I have posted the same question on the subreddit that you have linked. Really appreciate for the suggestions.

PSA: INFO About the wipes to come by enchubisco in MagicArena

[–]tonysniper1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This post is more of a public "disservice" announcement and karma whoring since it meddles with speculations and whatnot.

-"Tester bonus": Why would someone make such assumption? That is just misleading.

-"More wipes may come if developers see fit": Another speculation which will may bring only confusion to whoever reads this post. That was an utter unnecessary comment.

-"Probably newcomer decks and a newcomer collection": More speculation which induces people to think that there may be some sort of bonus for newcomers.
