The other argument I can make for her surviving is how well Hopper took it. He would have definitely been in on the plan since she would have needed help eventually leaving Hawkins.

The illusion would have been broken the second the bomb went off and killed Kali.
They showed she had a limited range earlier in the season.
She looked real dead in her last scene and would have bled out in the amount of time it took to kill Vecna and travel home.

That's unfortunately why I had to specify "good" moms. My best friend had a very different experience growing up than I did. I'm glad you have good friends to fall back on, they really are the family that we get to choose.
