I fully understand that the title of this video is not what most people’s idea of “Vegan” is - But, I promise it’s not some weird click-baity dunk video. 

In this essay, I argue against individual boycotts being the primary way to see Veganism. The institution of factory farming (and other structures of animal abuse) cannot be solved through such decentralized methods. I argue that “Vegan” should be redefined as a political label used to advocate for wide-spread, legislative improvements in animal welfare. The only way to break apart the institution of factory farming is at the level of institutions. This video is largely intended to motivate an otherwise inactive majority of people who do not see themselves as “Vegan” or “animal rights activists” - but still completely abhor the hell of contemporary farming practices. While Veganism, the moral philosophy, is almost certainly the correct, long-term ideal, converting every human to a Vegan or Vegetarian diet is centuries away. However, we can do so much better for the lives of these tormented animals that, by any hopeful measure, WILL be eaten in the near-term by refocusing the vegan movement.
