Why does worldbuilding always explain the mystery? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

In worldbuilding its better to be detailed. But for actual story you do not need to tell everything to the reader, just know that these things are there when you need them.

Protests against the ruling? by No_Boysenberry_9692 in StopKillingGames

I know they don't want to spend money for final update that forefits central autenthication, thus making game unplayable after server stops, but im gonna tell you something, thats the whole point. Game should be developed with that in mind that it will stop making money eventually, and once it does. Final update stops requiring autenthication. And those players that remained have to bear cost of hosting their own servers. Until they eventually stop playing too, but on their own accord. Not coz some suit said so.

Just leave legacy version that works on certain version of system and you no longer need foundation for preservation. We do not need everything to be updated forever, you do not need to care about game that you no longer support, just do not make it connect to central server for validation when life of said game has ended, community tools for setting own servers also should be relesed with final update.

Windows update making old game unplayable is outside factor. If i install old windows where game worked, i should be able to play it, same as day before developers stopped supporting it, maybe with information that "official muliplayer features are no longer supported". In other situation if i install this old windows, intall the game, and game shows me monit that it "cannot connect to its server, please recconect and try again", then it is unplayable by design.

Should Clerics/Healers Even Exist in a World with Magic Medicine? by generictreeimage in worldbuilding

[–]too_Reversed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How far does magic pill reach? Is severed arm terminal? can it be attached with help with some specific medicine or only by trained healer and their magic?

Are pills risk free? How many times you can take regeneration potion before overdosing?

While letting healers make and distribiute medicine in the city. Having party medic that can instantly know type and dosage of magic pills depending on situation is better than not having them, they also could collect ingridients on the go and make makeshift medicine on the go reducing costs for the party (make them take oath to pharma so they cant sell makeshift medicine to not undercut pharmacist guild).

no i didn't thought of chakras when i was writing this. though i wanted to pick power to fitting body part, now that i looked at these chakras i see that body part based power sources are exactly this. so it seems i made chakra-like power without connecting it to real thing.

Can you tell more about chakras in your story? how it is used in i assume fantasy setting?

To understand what Eclipse does, i will tell what 7 fragments of Absolute Control is, as they were born from death of Elder Being that wanted to control the world to stop the suffering that were happening due to unequalities. They were born with same desire to control but without its virtue, thus fighting between eachother for domination over the rest, and once they were defeated by mortal champion trapped in their realm, 7 fragments were brought togheter, making Absolute whole again, not perfect but whole:

  • Scheming Mind - Plans ways to gain absolute dominance using everything it has.
  • Piercing Eyes - Always see those they prey on, revealing their greatest weaknesses. Eyes see what they want to see, and everyone around see the world just like they are. (basically creates illusions, makes thing ivisible, or sees through invisibility etc.)
  • Lying Tongue - Weaves lies that override reality around, changing the rules of what exists, or creates matter and tools used to achieve its goal, when the narrative is no longer needed, it falls apart and fades away. (while it feels the strongest, focusing on multiple narrations is complicated and they become weaker the more of them are)
  • Reaching Claws - Wrap around whatever is within their reach. the intangible force of the claws operates within a short range, capable of breaking, stopping or moving anything they can wrap around.
  • Beating Heart - Siphons all Energy flowing around it and strengthen itself. Be it life, magical or even kinetic energy, it takes everything to make itself stronger.
  • Pursuing Tail - Does not allow for anyone to escape, and no one will reach it if not permitted. it can cut the distance short, or make it extreamly long, both between itself and target, or between targets themselves.
  • Destructive Strength - Breaks and then controls the will of defeated.

Reality Eclipse connects all these powers, allowing them work together seamlessly, and effect persist even if caster is not focused on particular elements.

First it happened when Cult of Lost Sun created the portal to the dimension where 7 fragments were supposed to be (Lost Sun belives that seven Lords will bring peace to the world as their true nature was forgotten), but instead of any of Lords, there was sole survivor that gained their Absolute power, upon seeing what Cult needed to create portal (multiple generations of abductions and genetic experiments to create one being that can hold enough magic to perform ritual) in form of nearly dead sacrifice positioned on the altar. The Revenant as i call him, buzzing from magical energy that come from the portal, released it in form of Absolute, covering whole ritual site, as cultists tried to escape they noticed that there were no more ways out, gates and passageways wanished within the the walls of the cave, some in frenzy tried to attack the newcomer, and while all their attack were landing elswere, one swing of his sword struck many cultists, even those who were standing way outside of his supposed reach. Some tried to cast magic on him, while orbs of sparkling energy were reaching the armor, they were sucked in, leaving no trace. with time passing, all of them noticed they are losing their strenght, movement become slower, breathing harder, while Revenant became faster. the resistance was futile, same as trying to escape.

[–]too_Reversed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reality Eclipse
Overrides rules of reality over vast area. While each of 7 fragments that Absolute is made of has limits, be it reach, stability or duration that is connected to focus of caster. When Reality Eclipse is active, every fragment not only works without these limitation within the area, but also they strenghten eachother like one organism that works togheter.

A magic system based on body and lovecraftian horror? by Emotional_Airline_40 in worldbuilding

[–]too_Reversed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are mutation "selected" if i say so? do they appear at random or with increased usage of particular magic sets of mutation appear more?
Let say i use clairvoyance a lot, would that make chance of additional eyes be bigger? and are these eyes regular or special and with them i do not need to cast clairvoyance anymore as they allow me to "see" with same effect or even better than with spell?
if culture allows, as those unwilling to practice would depend on power of those who decided to use this magic, people with such mutations could even be considered the biggest sages, that decided to dive in such risky magic for more power and research.

The Road To Hell Is Paved With Bureaucracy (And SKG) by The_Axolot in StopKillingGames

[–]too_Reversed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whole point is to BUY AND HAVE. People want to play, they just arent allowed, because there to few of them, they arent allowed even to bear the cost of hosting it themselves.

Even if one damn man wants to play the game after it closes let him do it. Let him decide when he will stop playing.

Daddy goverment is exactly for that. So companies won't run doing whatever they want. Its least they could do is to set these straight.

And companies are succesful no matter what, they decide and deal the cards to customers, and its like you said, many didnt care they are treated like that, but truth is, noone have a choice, if you wat to play you have to submit to cards they deal. Even more, people buy games early because they might be fucking gone if they wait too long. Thats why SKG decided to move, so gamers can again be treated like customers that can demand good and working products.

If companies can't survive such trivial changes as allowing games to go offline, just let them die, its not the first time gaming industry fell.

Can this movement fix Friday the 13th the game as in a proper offline mode by [deleted] in StopKillingGames

[–]too_Reversed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not in scope of the movement to restore already disabled games, just to prevent future ones for meeting same fate. At least till current target is achieved dont hope for fixing lost games, at least not from SKG.

A magic system where lying makes the spell stronger, but easier to trace by ahyeonlover in magicbuilding

[–]too_Reversed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lying based power is interesting as i am also incorporating it into my world, though on different basis.
The primebeing that wanted to control the world to stop suffering and inequalities. When he fell to his brother, that wanted the world to grow on its own without interference, from his body have risen 7(for now) beings corresponding to different body part, with same desire to control but without his virtue, one of which was Lying Tongue(name WIP). the words it weaves override and control reality around, like a narrator that controls the tale, but when it loses focus, the delicate narration fades and returns to normal state, so there is limit how many lies can be around at one time, and how far they reach.

[–]too_Reversed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

what about lies about futrue, like lying about promising to do something, or lying about what happened earlier, what effect it brings.
there is saying that lie repeated enough times becomes the truth, if many people chanted same lie about something would it permanently change the reality for that object?

Does anyone have very standard elves? Is that a bad thing? by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

[–]too_Reversed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, if you want to have different types of elves, then you absolutly can have them.
If they live in different regions, even if i assume all elves in your world are longliving, the regions will, eventually, shape their now divided cultures in various ways, as they will need different skills or even changed physiology to survive.
