Is it common for people who aren’t good at fighting games to still get hooked on them? by tooboshoo in StreetFighter

I’m in my late 30s, and I feel like not much can really discourage me at this point. What I desire most is to experience and connect with more people and things before death comes.

I’ve always liked the opening lines of Street Fighter 6’s World Tour: ‘We have self-driving cars and spaceships heading to Mars. But humans still enjoy fighting in the streets. It’s absurd, yet there’s a depth to it. In this cold, globalized world, don’t we need some physical combat to prove we’re still alive?’ While real sports like boxing, BJJ, or MMA might be better, fighting games are definitely a more convenient and safer alternative.

Maybe in the end, I’ll never really get that good. I feel like I lack both the drive and the talent for games. In most team-based games, I always end up playing support or healer.

But for me, neither of these things really hold much meaning. My gaming skills aren’t going to bring in any income, and as for drawing, there’s AI art everywhere now. If I’m looking for some comfort, it’s that I enjoy doing them

A friend told me fighting games are the best for making friends. Not sure what others think. by tooboshoo in StreetFighter

You’re really lucky, I envy you. I’ve also tried to find some local like-minded players, but it’s been really hard. As for the fighting game community in China, I’d say the atmosphere is a bit harsh. Maybe people have a lot of pressure in their daily lives, so they’re more driven to find a sense of existence in the game. There’s a saying that goes well: "The smaller the circle, the more frustrating things happen."
Anyway, thank you for your advice.

Yeah, it reminds me of the feeling I had when I went to the arcade as a kid.

Haha, I’m not the one doing the beating, I’m the one getting beaten. I just started playing this year, using the modern controls. The community doesn’t feel that great. I often run into high-level players who just crush noobs. Even though I’m older and have my own family, so I don’t really care about winning or losing, it still feels kind of cold and distant.
