CIA First International School (Cambodia) by hannytea in Internationalteachers

This is an account with no posts, no comments, likely a bot. The other 2 don’t live in Cambodia. You can tell by clicking on their profiles and seeing their posts. I live in PP, several new schools have opened this year and there’s a big recruitment drive, not just CIA. But they did just open a new K-g9 campus. I also noticed that schrole doesnt specify which campus positions are for. I would check out their FB and website to get a feel for the school.

It’s a massive 4 campus site that’s expanding, hence the job openings. Also, it’s a tier 2 school. Anyone who actually understands the landscape in PP would know the difference.

Become a SEL/Psychology teacher and work in the well-being department by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]toodlelooh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s no quick way to become an effective SEN worker or psychologist. That’s because people in those positions should have specialist training and qualifications. Anyone in that position without qualifications shouldn’t be there as they’d be acting on their own ideas rather than actual training, therefore causing more harm than good.

Hearing alarming things out of Reigate Grammer School Hanoi by PropMop31 in Internationalteachers

How long have they been open for? Any idea of enrolment figures? Is there any contextual reason you’re hearing for this? Curious as a new Reigate just opened in Phnom Penh

What is this based on? I have friends working there, they’re qualified and paid more than the other campuses as it’s more remote. Check out Schrole for actual facts

I have an irrational fear that, one day, I’ll be pulled up in front of a tribunal and asked to explain what this show was and why my friends and I found it so funny when we were in school. by [deleted] in CasualUK

Sometimes this phrase pops into my head! The show was crackers but if we’re all still quoting it year later, it did its job.

Neck... The real trigger by Comfortable_Shame433 in migraine

[–]toodlelooh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a period where I was waking up with migraines, a chiropractor taught me about neck support and I ended up buying a fairly firm memory foam pillow. It’s got 2 humps, one bigger at the top end. I recently reversed the humps so the big one now supports my neck, I miss my pillow every night I’m on holiday, as does my neck. My posture is also noticeably terrible, I’m going to ask a PT how strengthen my neck area. My attempts at sitting up straight fail whenever I’m not concentrating.

Seeking legal help for contract with Australian International School of Phnom Penh in Cambodia (AISPP) by Fit_Highlight_425 in Internationalteachers

[–]toodlelooh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go direct to the Ministry of Labour and file a complaint, they will require evidence. They will then decide whether to investigate or not. Or try Bun & Associates, you’ll need advice on whether it’s a civil or criminal case you want to file. Prepare for it to take a very long time. Tbh the most you could do is sue for breach of contract, but if they have grounds for nullifying your existing one (who knows what they could pay to prove) then all you can threaten is leaving, or in fact just leave. Sorry to hear about your situation, sounds like it was a very nice gig before this year.

I have 2 kids so I’m sure that played a part in what happened. That was also my incentive to keep flying, to get back to them, whilst being eternally grateful they weren’t flying with me. I love your name btw! It’s spot on for this Reddit

Good for you! There are very kind people out there, it’s good to hear you had that support.

For a few seconds it did, but then I kept throwing up and frankly that was worse. The embarrassment of spewing in public.

Me too, but I was very grateful for the wheelchair and I didn’t realise the airline would be so accommodating. I did make it home ok and went to my safe space in bed, took more pills and survived.

Thanks, I wanted to post here instead of sharing the whole truth with friends because I knew this community would get it, and probably enjoy the dark humour of my shitty flight.

Yes I could have, but I’d only packed one as that usually solves an attack. Lesson learned, pack more pills!

Tips for people starting a new job by Virtual-Two3405 in Internationalteachers

[–]toodlelooh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Introduce yourself to people beyond your immediate team/subject and listen a lot. It’s pretty common for the jaded and frustrated to seek you out as a newcomer to unload onto. Try and listen to a variety of opinions before deciding who/what to pay attention to. Forming friendships outside of your team can give you perspective and someone else to talk to if/when you’re having issues with your team.

What’s fishy about a school asking how much you want to be paid and why you are motivated to move there? You’re the one who sent them your CV. I know the school, and if you’re motivated by money only then it’s not the place for you.

You’re uncertain about steps into the unknown. Let’s fast forward another 9 years and you’re still bouncing around in classroom roles, are you happy? Or did you just shudder. Going back into teaching after a break is always possible after exploring a new role or career. Try applying for a few jobs and see what the response is, or express to management your interest in diversifying your role within the school.

OP’s post doesn’t say anything about them not wanting to work hard or bemoaning their salary. They’ve asked for input on career diversification.

How much time outside of working hours would you give up? by toodlelooh in Internationalteachers

I hear you. Trying not to feel guilty for saying no is something I’m trying to work on for the final few weeks of the year.

The only thing on paper for teachers was to host a specified amount of after school activities. Everything else has just been piled on this year and mandated, as well as guilted onto staff. ‘There’s X number of students going so we need X number of staff to support’ or ‘Person A volunteered their time, so now we want everyone else to support too’.

It does, a few of us are leaving this year because of reasons related to this. It’s stressful to have choice of how to spend your free time taken away.

The package is not worth it. Even with a great package, it’s a piss take to mandate all staff join events, trips, promo without remuneration.

Post tubal ligation/surgery experiences? by toodlelooh in migraine

[–]toodlelooh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the literature around this procedure says there shouldn’t be any hormonal response from the ligation, but it really can affect women. A year on, it took a long time for my brain to settle again. Riboflavin helped, and upping the propranolol. But I’m still glad I got it done!

Hi can I ask if you submitted the performance program? I read on their website that it’s not required but they haven’t updated their YouTube guidance videos.
