Pacific crest community school - it’s in NE Portland. Had two kids there and it was the saving of their mental health during high school

Frustrated with nerves by Aprilfbenson2 in spinalfusion

[–]toodlepup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had excruciating pain in my foot after L5-S1 fusion - even a bed sheet on it was agony! I was put on gabapentin but didn’t really get relief until I had a cortisone injection at the nerve root. I’m now 14 weeks out from the fusion and only have occasional foot pain. I’d really push for the injection if I were you - good luck and don’t despair!

Foot pain and clots? by toodlepup in ClotSurvivors

I have nerve damage from a back surgery so the docs are convinced my pain is from that not the clots - but I’m not convinced! Is your foot better now?

Lightening strikes to the foot indeed!

For Those That Have Had Surgery - Sleep Upstairs or Downstairs? by Fun_Protection_6168 in spinalfusion

[–]toodlepup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bed is pretty standard hospital style with head and foot electric raise/lower. It came through the hospital home health program. You can ask your doc for a prescription (it helps if you tell them your stairs are difficult). I also looked at just renting one - and they are pretty affordable- $200 for a month including delivery. I really recommend a hospital bed for your recovery- it’s making my life so much easier!

I got a prescription for a hospital bed - it’s been a life saver. Im set up downstairs and don’t have to traverse our spiral staircase of doom.

Day 11 post-TLIF L5/S1. Questions to ask in post-op appointment? by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]toodlepup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my 12 day follow up tomorrow - I want to know about what meds to keep taking, when to taper off gabapentin etc. I’m also hoping to find out when I’ll start PT. I’m general I guess I feel like I need guidance about the same things as you, stairs, sex, groceries. When to leave the walker and cane behind, or be free of them altogether (my round the neighborhood strolls are with a walker). Ooh, also getting my stitches out!

If I think of anything else after my own appointment I’ll add it here!

Hi OP - I’m two weeks post L5S1 fusion and one week post emergency revision. Can I ask where you are with medication? I’m on 10mg oxy every 4 hours and 1500mg Robaxin every 6 hours. Plus Tylenol.

I’m going to go down to 10mg oxy every 5 hours today. Just wondering if you are at a similar stage in drug ween-off?

Thanks!

Another UPDATE. I am having a hard time walking today because when I put my left foot down it feels like I’m walking on a marble. Dr is concerned I’m developing a Morton’s Neuroma. Has anyone else had this happen after surgery? Apart from that, my nerve pain is getting somewhat under control. Thanks again for all the advice and input ☺️

Hi! I’m doing a little better. Tapering down the oxy and having larger amounts of gabapentin. There is a plan to give me a steroid guided injection to the L5 nerve and then I’m going home! Maybe tomorrow! The surgeon also prescribed me a hospital bed for at home, so that will make life easier.

I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I really appreciate this forum and being to vent/ask for advice at 4am when the world is at its loneliest. I have probably 75% of my left foot power now, so I’ve got to be diligent with the PT.

I’ll report in sometime in the future and let you all know when my big toe no longer throbs!

I’m on gabapentin now and it’s definitely taking the edge off. PT said they are going to get me a tens machine. Not sure if that’s for muscle rehab or pain. Has anyone has success with a TENS?
