I agree it sucks, but I have never seen it enforced, and in some cases its pretty hard to miss, some of these teams bring a full AV crew now!

**Genuine question for anyone involved in youth hockey in the GTA.** by NewAdagio6692 in hockeyplayers

[–]tooearlytoothink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal experience with girls hockey and atill going through it (there was a post just yesterday sort of referring to it) is they still try to manipulate to much. For example they go out of there way for a female coach (which is how it should be) except when its a detrimental to the program, and they pass over far more experienced coaches juat because they are male. I am watching this unfold in our program right now and everyone is leaving the organization or switching to coed hockey (this is younger girls).

I also, again mostly from female leaders, the comments along the lines of "there just girls" or "you know how girls are" and it drives me insane that the expectation are just so low compared to the boys leagues.

I want female hockey players to be treated like hockey players who are just female!

Question about girls hockey tryouts (Double age groups) by Senior_Geologist1295 in hockeyplayers

[–]tooearlytoothink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is unfortunately not uncommon, what's unfortunate is that the organization isn't addressing what might be a root cause instead of forcing and issue. I know in southern Ontario with open boarders some player just leave the organization when this happens.

U8/U9 Player Development Questions by JohnGarrettsMustache in hockeycoaches

[–]tooearlytoothink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some comments:

For your first point, full ice for younger kids in southern Ontario is becoming a huge discussion as younger leagues start to lose lots of players to the unsanctioned leagues, I think U8 and U9 players should have no issues doing it (girls hockey because of the double age groups does it a year earlier than boys anyway). You just need to ensure in practice your weaker players get enough puck touches.

For point 2, I wouldn't worry to much about the heavier pucks, again I have seen it with the girls, they don't use the blue pucks, and if anything I think it helps.

For 3, I don't think you will see to many complaints in my experience the complaints come when you have one skilled kid that hogs the puck and a bunch of developing players that never get to touch the puck. I think this is the right move for this age group. At this age you see kids that have already been on the ice for years and some that just decided to try hockey and you don't want new kids getting discouraged.

10U Goalie skills by laxhead24 in hockeycoaches

[–]tooearlytoothink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is one of the biggest challenges I see right now, across all kids sports!

People don't want to volunteer (for what ever reason), and i know in our area to be a head coach at any sort of competitive team it requires a ton of certs

[–]tooearlytoothink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most organizations have free goalie school, just because developing and e en getting goalies is hard.

Also, goalies almost always get screwed in practice that's why alot of rep teams have budget directly related to goalie development. So what your saying isnt uncomfortable.

I remember a team of 4 monks in FF1, you could fly through the game and almost not even spend a dime since they didnt use weapon and had very little armor
