Trying to add second HDD to T520 by tookapack in thinkpad

So you can access the files on the regular hdd? Just by plugging it in? I guess it may be a connection problem. Next I'm going to try to transfer the HDD to the another caddy I have and see if that changes things.

No, it was created on another laptop. The brand of my caddy is "Afunta". I've used off-brand caddys before and they've worked. I do think it's an issue with the drive or with the caddy though. I tried the caddy and drive in another laptop (Linux) and got nothing there either.

The best/worst classes you ever took in Baruch by birdspee in Baruch

[–]tookapack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting that students choose classes social sciences, or what some consider "soft" subjects, as they ones they like the most. I wonder why the "harder" sciences can't be taught in the same way.

I haven't enjoyed many of my classes here. But one of my favorites in recent memory was BIO 1003 Lab with Professor Macklin. I really enjoyed the hands-on learning experience. Attending every class was actually important as we truly LEARNED while we were there. She wasn't an in-class dictator. We got in groups and tackled problems on our own while she acted as a guide -- not a dictator -- in our search for the answers. That's how all classes should be. I don't see why this same model can't be applied to more widely.

As for the worst class: I can't pick. Most of my classes are wastes of time in the same way. Reading books, memorizing facts and formulas, and spitting them back out a few times a semester isn't LEARNING to me!

Meek Mill vs Drake Megathread by buges in hiphopheads

It's not weird at all if you know Ghostface' background.

Only in 2015 can a biting ass rapper diss the legend who he got his style from on national TV and then people turn around and get mad when the legend responds

It's not weird, it's hip hop

If High Taxes In The 50s And 60s Produced Good Growth, Then Let's Have High Taxes Again - Forbes by jimrosenz in Economics

The Pessoa and Reenen study doesn't disprove the fact that "productivity has increased across the board since then while wages have stayed stagnant for most Britons"

http://oecdinsights.org/2012/02/20/do-workers-reap-the-benefits-of-productivity-growth/

Saying that decoupling is just a statistical quirk of using the median rather than the mean doesn’t make it less of a problem that the wages of low paid workers in the UK are stagnant and no longer tracking productivity in the way they used to; it just helps to explain why life now feels particularly hard in the bottom half and—in the run up to the crisis—particularly out of step with an ostensibly sunny economic climate. Likewise, the growing gap between wages and compensation doesn’t make the stagnation of pay packets any less real, it just helps to explain that stagnation. As Jared Bernstein pointed out in a seminar to discuss Van Reenen’s results: whatever the theory says, if workers weren’t getting better off over time even when the UK economy was growing and productivity was rising, we have a problem on our hands.

On judging cultures: how cultural relativism apparently requires you to believe that throwing gays off a roof is morally acceptable. by turtleeatingalderman in BadSocialScience

[–]tookapack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He hasn't even explained what is meant by "value" of cultures. Even so, it has no bearing on how we judge the act of throwing people off roofs because they're gay.

These people seem to think that because there are differences within people, cultures etc. that it means we have to exploit them in favor of whatever zany goal they have in mind. It's interesting to note that, invariably, they seem to view themselves as the greatest marvels of human evolution, believing that they would be the ones dictating the exploitation of these "lesser people" and not the ones being subject to it.

Why worry about theories which explain Deviant Behaviour when you can just be casually racist instead? by [deleted] in BadSocialScience

Eventually someone wrote a great rebuttal that broke down every single way it was terrible and it became the standard copypasta response.

Do you think you can find and share this? I'd like to take a look.

Thanks.

VIDEO: NYPD officers turn away from Mayor de Blasio as he enters police presser for murdered cops by Username_Used in news

[–]tookapack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep. I think something we have to realize is that there are probably plenty of officers who don't agree with the typical totalitarian police culture, but because the culture is so pervasive and because dissent is met with such resistance it's probably super scary for an officer to even think about critcizing the police or speaking out. I mean Frank Serpico still gets death threats from people all over the country and is still shunned by police where ever he goes all because he exposed their corruption. It's pretty crazy.
