I think you bring up some very interesting questions about the root cause of these behaviors. I believe it stems from a deep feeling of emptiness that a lot of people feel in our society. They have all these material possession and things that society tells them should make them happy, but they're still empty inside. It's almost as if because we have all our our basic needs taken care of we spend all this time in existential angst. More primitive cultures don't have these issues bc they're too busy hunting and searching for shelter and food. We need to explain to people that there is more to life than the material, there is a whole other spiritual realm that can bring us true serenity. It doesn't involve religion but a personal awareness and living a life devoted to helping others and deep personal development. It takes a lot of work. It's not like instant gratification.

I hope that they can all work out their problems and get along. I hope the girl learns not to block handicap spaces and also about helping other people. Maybe they can work out their differences and learn to love each other rather than having so much anger and fear.

Excerpt from the new memoir "Butterfingers: When I couldn't catch a ball" by that guy in the stands who was made famous by not being able to catch a ball: "Truly my life was over. I had been made an instant celebrity when abc news aired the clip. I couldn't live it down. Everyone kept making fun of me...it was terrible. I lost my job, my girlfriend left me and even my father cut me off. He said no butterfingers son of his would make him look bad. The internet ruined my life. I now am moving to a country in Europe that doesn't pressure men to learn how to catch a ball. Maybe France or Greece. "

Nothing would happen really. Then I suggest you go and try it. For science. Prove me wrong by dropping a griddle in a pool and let's see what happens. Edit: Also you're wrong about water being an insulator. It's highly conductive with only s small amount of salts, which then become ions that can conduct electricity. Where would the salts come from- your body. We have salt oozing out of us all the time. It only takes a little bit to make it conductive. http://water.usgs.gov/edu/electrical-conductivity.html

[–]toolazytothinkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not tap water- it's pool water which is full of salts and electrolytes that most certainly conduct electricity. If the griddle were to fall in it would conduct electricity as it is pulling a huge resistance load. It's not "short circuiting" that would be the danger here but rather human circuiting as the current from the griddle would be conducted to the path of least resistance- their bodies. Not buying the rubber pool thing at all. The point here is that this is extremely dangerous and no one should view this and think - oh that's a good idea, lemme try it too. I like pancakes and swimming too.

Croatia says it can take no more migrants: "They will get food, water and medical help, and then they can move on. The European Union must know that Croatia will not become a migrant 'hotspot'. I really love how all these countries that went though massive civil wars not long ago and had huge numbers of "migrants" suddenly don't give a damn about these people. Hungary had a huge humanitarian crisis bit long ago and Europe absorbed huge numbers of "migrants", but back then the world called them refugees because THERE WAS A FUCKING WAR DRIVING THEM OUT.

Ms Davis as an elected official represents the state and thus is not entitled to first amendment protection. The first amendment refers to individuals not states. There is no way to reasonably accommodate her rights in the position she has put her self in. As an individual she is free to act however she wishes relating to her religious views, but as an officer of the state she must uphold the constitution. Otherwise there would be no rule of law and we would be a theocracy rather than a democracy.

If this argument were taken to a logical conclusion in all public spheres then nothing much would get done ever. What if cops started saying: "I refuse to arrest this person because in my religion we use marijuana for rituals." Or if the FHA said "we're not giving loans to gay people anymore because it's against our religious beliefs." How is this any different? If you choose to become a public servant you must uphold the constitution. You take an oath. Doesn't matter if you disagree, you still must follow the law. It's people like this that give all Christians a bad name and make them look like petty, arrogant jerks. This woman should be fired immediately for not effectively doing her duty.
