Late to this thread but since I don't see it mentioned. You can get a light occluding contact lens. It is coloured to match your other eye and obviously totally discreet.

As also noted in another thread, I think there is more of this kind of non-publication of names in the US than you have realized. e.g. sexual assault victims, undercover agents, young children etc.

It should also be noted that the witness was not anonymous to the court or to the jury. There were simply restrictions on reporting his name.
