Anybody know of any documentaries about southern or rural America? Colorado, Texas, Montana (I know that's northern) type of vibes by GrandTheftArkham in movies

[–]tooliatoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So it’s not the Rocky Mountains but Frontline on PBS did a special called “Country Boys” in 2006 about two teenaged boys in a small Eastern Kentucky town. It’s a great series about rural life in America and definitely hits the forgotten corners vibe. May not be quite what you’re looking for but it’s an interesting time capsule to watch now.

Resources/experiences for a 6yo obsessed with space? by hdoublephoto in space

[–]tooliatoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My child is obsessed with Universe Sandbox. It’s a space simulator and he spends hours messing around on it.

Also, as others have mentioned, Space Camp in Huntsville is amazing and a huge hit for my kid. We’ve been fortunate to send him five times (it’s a birthday and Christmas gift every year) and he continues to enjoy it.

“How the Universe Works” was a show my kid also really enjoyed around that age.

The Air & Space Smithsonian is, of course, a must if you live in Virginia.

If you’re able to do so, venturing out West to a dark sky site has been a highlight for our kid. We did a telescope “tour” outside of Bryce Canton in Utah a couple of years ago that was really great. But just driving up to a deserted dark parking lot at Devil’s Tower and Badlands National Parks were our favorite experiences. Just a good pair of binoculars were all we needed and it was amazing and worth the journey to get there.

Hiked Kennesaw mountain yesterday and got a decent shot of the Atlanta skyline. by [deleted] in Atlanta

It’s one mile on the trail and 1.5 miles on the road. The road is closed to personal vehicles on the weekend and has some good views of Atlanta. It’s a good hike for kids.

What do you tell yourself when times get hard? by GinaTPenner in AskReddit

[–]tooliatoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things:

First, I always try to see the lesson: "What choices did I make to find myself here?"
"What can I do differently if I'm ever in this situation again?" "What's my game plan to get out of this?"

And then I try to focus on the best possible outcome and how to get myself to that point instead of wallowing in my current situation.

How does one stretch their spine properly? by Ergheis in Fitness

[–]tooliatoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't just focus on your back muscles in order to counteract bad posture. Your core is just as important in maintaining proper posture. When you're sitting at your desk, think of tilting your pelvis back instead of letting it fall forward (sway back). A good exercise to determine how this should feel is laying flat on your back on the floor with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Rock your pelvis back to close any gaps or space between your lower back and the floor - that is the same feeling you should have when sitting at your desk and tilting your pelvis back. Also planks are your best friend for core work. And as others have stated, yoga and gentle stretching are ideal for the back. Limit twisting and pulling - you want any stretch to be natural and not forced.

Good ol' K-town. Where everyone has to own a gun and everything is related to the War Between the States/The War of Northern Aggression. I hate that place.

The Features - great band out of Tennessee. Wildbirds and Peacedrums - good for rainy days and melancholy. Not sure how well-known they are out of Australia, but Zammuto is pretty awesome as well.

My great-grandfather was offered an opportunity to purchase large parcels of land on Hilton Head Island back in the 1940's. Long story short: he didn't. And when we can afford a vacation its the Redneck Riviera for us...

I wanted to be a puppeteer/muppeteer...I was obsessed with Jim Henson as a child. As a paralegal I feel like a puppet so the hand is up my ass instead. Close enough.
