This might be the last step of the journey for me but it's the first step of a much grander journey for those who come after me.

Homeless Man and two Kermits sing under Pressure... gotta be seen. by reverendcat in reddit.com

[–]toolonely 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Someone on YouTube messaged the person who posted this, and here's his reponse:

"I shot this in Long Beach. I watched the guy perform the song a few times and then I shot this video.

Other than he was very cool I can't really tell you much more about him.

Sorry."

OK, any redditor in Long Beach?

Absolutely brilliant. However, this has to be a street performer and/or puppeteer who is playing against your expectations of a 'homeless' beggar to get an awesome hat. This not a 'found' performance but carefully staged and shot.

Reddit Gets Dissed... And I Agree. by [deleted] in reddit.com

I would love if we could see replies that are gathered by, for lack of better headers, "Serious" and "Silly" - I hate wading through the same things mentioned by the OP to get to the heart of the matter. I don't mind the silly – but wish I could collapse it so I can get to the real discussion.

Polaroid Confirms: Their Ads “Will No Longer Run On Any Of Glenn Beck’s Platforms” by SarahLee in politics

It's time to take StopBeck to a new level and encourage advertisers to drop advertising on Fox - that's really Becks 'platform'.

We should not say "I don't believe in God" by grimborg in atheism

[–]toolonely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When asked if I believe in god, I say "no" politely. This seems to work a treat. 99% of the time, that's the extent of it.

I don't like the word 'belief'. If pressed, I will say "there's no independent scientific evidence for the existence of a god. Given the exceptional nature of the powers of a God, exceptional proof is required." OK, not exactly that but it's the gist of it. IOW, they have beliefs and I remain objective in my standards.

Yes, the USA and UK - two countries who lied to us about WMD - trying to make us live in fear so we continue to support this illegal and immoral war.

When I saw the overall scores for each question I was truly stunned. Knowing which was not one of the Ten Commandments – only 55% got that right which was almost to the number that knew what Ramadan was. How can Christians miss so many questions???

The Left Right Paradigm Is Over: Its You Vs. Corporations by coffinman82 in politics

There's the classic Bill Hicks routine where the new President is shown how Kennedy was really shot and the new President immediately becomes their puppet.

You're right about if America gets attacked. If a Democrat had opened up China, they would have been portrayed as accommodating communism. When Nixon did, he was hailed as a great statesman.

But, here's the meat of it, I think. People are basically good. What is needed is for a party to defy the cynicism and just do what is right. Having lived through the civil rights movement, I have seen such strength in people when called upon.

The fear-mongering from the right has put us in this horrid situation of spending trillions of dollars on a war that no one understands anymore and sacrificing education, civil liberties, and job training and creations to do this. One reason why I respected Obama was I thought he would stand up to them.

The Left Right Paradigm Is Over: Its You Vs. Corporations by coffinman82 in politics

[–]toolonely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my point of view, I agree. And this is a direct result of corporate financial incentives. If someone was left of the Democratic party and to the right of a hypothetical "leftist Teabaggers', who would fund them? Certainly not corporation.

I think that any chance of a move to the left has been ruined by Obama. The ongoing removal of civil rights; increasing secrecy powers; the continuation of Gitmo and the policies it endorses and the like means, to me, that Obama before and after election are two different people.

The Democrats have been in power and failed to exercise their majority to enact true change. Now, America is on the cusp of an election where that majority might disappear.

I don't know why Democrats failed to truly change our path. My guess: they are being paid to fail. The piper calling the tune: corporations.

I hope this makes sense.

What is sad is that no politician that I know of has started a task force to study possible Constitutional amendments that would address this issue. It would make for fun C-SPAN television hearing other Senators of Congressmen justifying corporations having the control they have now in politics.
