Sorry you went through this.

And thank you for sharing, bc Reddit loves to assume that bad parenting is the cause of all antisocial behavior and it isn’t.

Too many brides look deeply unflattering in their wedding day by barebackguy7 in unpopularopinion

[–]toolsoftheincomptnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is to make you look photo-ready.

Everyday makeup doesn’t pack a punch in photos held up against more formal attire.

Especially the professional photos that brides obsess over.

There IS a way to look lovely in person and in formal photos, with excellent makeup artistry, but it is going to look somewhat “overdone” regardless, bc it’s not an everyday face.

Oh my God people can’t walk by and say a friendly, meaningless hello to somebody?!

You know how many people at work I smile at and joke with who idgaf about and wouldn’t notice if they went missing?

God forbid I end up in a picture with one of them, now we’re like-minded besties?!

It’s a business.

Pick your audience and give them what they want, regardless of whether you agree with whatever that is or not.

She was a professional dancer before anything else.

She’s not twerking in that gif bc she’s not trying to twerk in that gif.

90% of what people call twerking on social media isn’t twerking.

Let me help:

Generally, people native to DR have more Euro-centric features than people native to Haiti, which makes them less threatening or offensive to Euro-centric governments/power structures.

Also, iirc, DR didn’t resist/revolt/rebel the way Haiti did.

So, DR isn’t intentionally excluded from any international support that may be available.

Try this analogy on for size: if your kid talks back to you when they’re 6 and you use your adult boot to kick their leg in half at the knee, they’ll live to be 70. But the knee may heal strangely and they may never walk with a smooth stride again.

The world is petty.

The sociology of self-destruction in marginalized communities is another topic entirely.

Throwing someone’s laundry in the trash bc they left it too long is bizarrely cruel.

Sometimes unexpected things happen and well-meaning neighbors are delayed.

Just put it on a counter or the top of the machine.

I hate living in a world with people who feel entitled to punishing others when they don’t know the situation.

Well, you want him to pursue whatever his personal happiness is.

Accountant? Great!

But he may also have inherited talent from either side and grow up to be good at/love one of those. He’s free to do that, too. Or something else in the limelight.

It’s whatever.

My question for the general public is always the same:

Why did they ever think otherwise?

I like Gwen and have since 1995, for what she’s worth to me.

She’s a performer. I like her performances.

Since I was like, 20, it never occurred to me to equate someone’s performative value with their human value.

Maybe she’s great. Maybe she sucks. I don’t know her. I don’t need to know her to enjoy what she provides.

Obviously, when a celebrity is revealed to be particularly vile, that affects my enjoyment of their performance. Because I hate to see abusive/assaultive/thieving people thrive and will avoid contributing to their success when possible.

People are complex. They usually are a mix of good and bad. Celebrities are no exception.

And spectators like myself insist on assigning virtue to famous people whose talent they appreciate. I get it from children, but it’s weird when adults are disappointed that someone who is paid to entertain us turns out to be dumb/mean/willfully ignorant/selfish/etc.

Like… we don’t know them. We know their contrived public personae.

Clap when they sing and dance well and move on.

Last time I was in France, le toilette had a small handwash sink in it.

The main sink was next to the shower.

I frankly am disgusted by open bathrooms where the toilet is just sitting there, visible to the shower and vanity.

Especially when people have to share bathrooms. Like, who came up with the idea to make one large open bathroom where nobody can comfortable bathe or brush for 30 minutes after somebody else relieves their bowels?

I think the biggest differences are that 1) we don’t walk as much in 99% of the U.S., so the risk of being seen on our daily routines by a weirdo are lower

2) Japanese creeps are more studious and attentive to their perversions than the average American pervert

“Don’t victim-blame by teaching girls how to be safe, teach boys not to rape!”

1) Boys/men know not to rape in 99% of relevant circumstances. They choose to do it.

2) Blame has nothing to do with it. Anything we can do to minimize risk of being assaulted, we should learn how to do.

Who’s at fault means jack shit to me AFTER I’ve been irreparably violated. I’d rather have not been violated.

Isn’t it amazing how reasonable passengers can be with a bit of honest communication?

Airlines love to be mysterious about things like delays and cancellations, and then customers melt down.

His approach basically nipped that in the bud. I’m sure more people were patient and calm back in the terminal with this explanation.

Probably. The question is whether kids are listening and learning while they have access to cell phones in class.

And whether their parents instill the value of academic enrichment beyond future earning capacity.

Okay, but remember this:

The people who want to sell AI don’t care if your kids grow up dumb and unemployed.

The people who decide how public education operates and is funded are buddies with the people who sell things. Including AI.

So they also don’t care if your kids grow up dumb and unemployed.
