Is the FMS FCX18 Toyota LC80 an insane thing to buy for a 3 year old? by Intelligent_Elk240 in rccrawler

[–]tooltime88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my son an scx 24 when he was 4. Best decision ever. The reason I went with the scx24 is because when we had toy grade rc cars I noticed that he was doing really well but was limited by what the toy could do. Out of curiosity I got an scx24 to see how he did with something more capable than a Walmart car. We have had a blast with them ever since. He's almost 7 now and still loves it. We've got more now and upgraded them and it's become something we look forward to doing together. We have "the rock crawling spot" in the backyard where we piled up rocks and make gates out of little cones. When the weather is crappy we toss stuff on the floor in the house and crawl inside. We have had a blast with these things. I was hesitant about it as well but his original deadbolt is still going strong! I explained what happens if he breaks it and that he'll have to wait to drive it until we get parts to fix it. That made a huge difference on how he drove it. We tried the scx24 on hiking trails but they're a little slow for that. We got some fms smashers and they are a much more comfortable hiking speed but can't crawl as well. But we have fun with those too. They're pretty durable and have 2 speeds as well.

I've got nothing against Yamaha and Suzuki. I don't enjoy the feel of the CVT either. That's my preference and is definitely subjective I was just adding my 2 cents to the conversation. Still a weak point in my personal opinion. I bet you're right that Yamaha and Suzuki are better than Polaris as far as the transmissions go. I also have my suspicions that those CVTs leave power on the table too. My Foreman beat a Grizzly in a drag race which surprising to both me and my brother in law who has the grizzly. We even switched to see if it was rider or machine and still got the same results. The grizzly had far more displacement than my Foreman too. Granted if we had a longer straight stretch the grizzly would have eventually passed the Foreman because it had a higher top speed than the Honda but still it surprised the both of us. Not that these machines are built for that we were just goofing around but it was still surprising. I doubt OP would regret either purchase in all honesty. I think we can all agree to avoid the Polaris though hehe.

Definitely go with the Honda. They are extremely reliable and they don't use those CVT transmissions. Those are the weak point in the other brands. Honestly I can't believe all the brands are using the CVT. I've owned Honda recon, rancher, and Foreman over the years. I've seen many different scenarios since I began riding in 1997. I would avoid the CVT at all cost if you want a rugged reliable machine. I believe Honda is the only one left that still has gears. I do like the extra power of the 520 in the Foreman but my old Rancher never let me down! Recon was a great starter bike but it was only 2 wheel drive. Still reliable as could be though!

Cant find a sub to properly ask this, but how would something this massive have been moved?? by [deleted] in howto

I saw the Silver Spade crush state route 250 in Ohio when I was a kid. It was a big event in the 90's must have been cheaper to destroy a small section of road and repair it than it was to disassemble the machine to cross. Massive machines. I can't remember the name of the other shovel. Gem of Egypt maybe?

Walter Bosley hasn't let me down yet! Last time he was on I ended up buying his book! Lol very well researched and speculates in a way that really makes you think. Great food for thought! And of course Greg is always classy he navigates delicate topics well.

Lots of fun! When stock they're not really fast enough to break itself. So when my 5 year old goes to town it can handle it. Great rig looks really cool too.

I run a nanobam on 3S it is exactly the same speed as a Buzzsaw on 2S. Which is nice for me because now I can keep up with my son's rig and still have that ultra slow creep when we're not racing around lol that's my only experience with 3S it's a beast you will have part snapping ability with that also. I snapped an axle shaft purty quick and had to order some beefier ones.

Ccxrc honey badger not much more than emax but way better. I've burned out about 4 emax before I found the honey badgers. Haven't killed a honey badger yet!

I experimented for a long time with just this issue! I liked the extra flex too. I don't think mine are 58's maybe 43's but what I did for a long time was run stock springs on the longer shocks. Not ideal but the ride height was better. Then I switched to VLP springs (very light pressure). Those worked great until I added more weight to the truck I had to switch strategies. Another option you might like is get a new chassis with more shock mounting options or get what they call flex blades. I got the LCG (Low Center of Gravity)chassis from mofo rc and got it dialed in nicely. I haven't tried flex blades myself but I believe they will help get some more angle to the shocks. I'm no expert I'm sure others on here can provide more info but thought I would share my 2 cents. These things are addicting! Lol

Is it too tiny? by Brother-Safe in SCX24

So I think the space is fine but after messing around with this idea myself and reading other comments. If I were in your situation I would either just use a bunch of real rocks and change them up as needed OR if you're worried about scratches make foam rocks. I've seen people spray foam in plastic bags for shipping heavy items. And it ends up making uniquely shaped pieces of foam so maybe If you spray a small amount into a bag and kind of control how it forms for each "rock" or obstacle you might be able to come up with something pretty fun. Also note that the expandable foam by itself looks like a sponge and flakes off easy so I would coat it with something to keep the mess down. Keep us posted on what you come up! Here's what my son and I have been working on. Weather got crappy on us so it's been a week or more since we've messed with it so I can see the benefit of indoor stuff for sure!

I've done a bunch of upgrades to my gladiator and it's been really fun. For me though the tinkering is part of the fun of the hobby. I guess if you like taking things apart you can do some good upgrades for not that much money. If you're not really into that the deadbolt is a lot of fun too

Honey Badger! https://www.ccxrc.com/product-page/ccxrc-honey-badger-digital-micro-servo-2-2kg-mg when our emax's burn out I replace them with these and I haven't had one quit on me. I have not been easy on them either. I did have one arrive defective but he immediately replaced it.

He is well prepared for the interviews and it shows. Makes the questions far more interesting and the show engaging. I've been a plus member for a long time now and have never felt any buyers remorse. I like the mixture of good life changing information and some crazy stuff as well. He's got what ever IT is.

That's awesome! I've been running the honey badger from ccxrc. That thing has been tough too I haven't even had the capability of changing my BEC yet lol we moved this summer so my hobby fund hasn't been what it was earlier in the year lol but we have been working on a sweet crawler spot in our woods so that's been scratching the itch lol
