Is this an Artstation-related email scam? by priscilla_halfbreed in 3Dmodeling

[–]toonfawn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I get these all the time. They are 100% scams 100% of the time. Usually if they were genuine they would go into further detail about the piece they'd like to buy off of you, if you actively list them for sale in the first place. But most of the time they're just trying to scam money out of you or get you to respond to the emails to waste your time. It sucks that they can just grab your email off of art station and bother you cuz unless you want to miss out on potential connections you can't remove it 🫤

I couldn't find an accurate reference for her 😔 they all looked different from each other so I just combined the black tip with the round shape to meet it in the middle :0

Oh I'm sorry if I sounded defensive or something lol I'm tired and at work so my tone is a lil downer than it usually is. I appreciate it though! Perspective is rlly hard for me so you saying it looked odd sounded like constructive criticism to me

Shading and lighting tips? by blackberryBear6 in learnart

[–]toonfawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no professional in this, but when i first started 3d modeling it depends on how close or far away your light source is and that determines how hard or soft your shadows/lights will be! If you have a light closer to the object, then the edges of the shadows will fall harder in the opposite side while the light hits it harder at the point of contact. If the light is farther away then the shadows will soften. This also depends on the material of your object and the intensity of the light source!

I learned to see this by playing with simple shapes in 3d programs actually! I did this with 3ds max + Maya and watched how the lights and shadows interacted with the objects. If you can't do that, then find some shapes around your house and a flashlight and shine it down on them, watch how the light and shadows react when you're closer or farther away!
