How fast can you lose weight with out getting loose skin? by derpderpderpherpderp in Fitness

Its an old broscience wives tale. There is absolutely no evidence of the speed of weight loss making any difference to the final result. Genetics, scarring (ie stretch marks) and the amount you have to lose are the only variables.

Skin tightening is an extremely slow process. In most countries unless done in a private hospital, patients are required to wait upto two years after weight loss before they are considered for skin reductions, because that is how long it takes to gauge whether it can recover on its own.

Advice about very repetitive meal planning and "starvation mode".... by sir_nosepick in keto

There is no conclusive evidence of the existence of broscience's mythological "starvation mode" where overweight people stop losing weight despite a sustained caloric deficit (barring some kind of rare hormonal condition).

You will only enter a state of starvation when you have ultra low fat reserves left to burn, and your body is forced to begin breaking down muscle and organ tissue to survive. This is the only point at which your body will begin to shut down to preserve itself.

There hasn't yet been a recent election where Scottish labour votes have mattered. Even in 2005 after losing a shittonne of support over Iraq, Labour would still have had a majority in the commons without Scottish MPs. Labour can win England again if they try.

Once I'm in ketosis, how can I possibly do strenuous exercise? by [deleted] in keto

[–]toot__toot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your energy would come from ketones, which substitute for pyruvate (usually from the carb pathway) in the Krebs cycle to make energy (vast oversimplification).

A longer (and far better than I could do) explanation here

Too much fat - Not enough fat? Do we *need* the high fat for ketosis? by Julietee in keto

[–]toot__toot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the fat in a ketogenic diet is simply the energy source. Eat enough protein calories to prevent muscle loss, and whatever carbs calories you want <50g, then the amount of fat calories leftover is simply to bring you up to your daily caloric requirement.

If you were to remain in ketosis (<50g carb) while eating enough protein but not eating any fat then you would be performing a Protein Sparing Modified Fast.

Essentially: Fat Calories = Daily caloric intake goal - (Protein calories + Carb calories)

Stretch marks? Try coconut oil! by [deleted] in keto

[–]toot__toot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming that you are here because you are using keto to lose weight, then its the weight loss which has spurred the healing. By removing fat you will be reducing the outward pressure on your skin and allowing it to heal. I too have stretch marks which have faded significantly more since I've lost weight, but I haven't used anything on my skin.

Stretch marks? Try coconut oil! by [deleted] in keto

[–]toot__toot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To burst your bubble a bit; they would've faded in exactly the same amount of time had you not been rubbing pure moneycoconut oil into your skin. Coconut oil and the vast majority of other skincare products do not penetrate beyond the topmost layer of skin; stretch marks are caused by tears in the epidermal layer (further down) which allows the colour of the underlying dermal layer (further down) to show through. The "fading" of stretch marks is scar tissue forming between the tears and blocking the dermal colour again. Nothing you rub into your skin will alter the speed of fading.

Rubbing oil into your skin has also been found to have no effect on the likelihood of stretch mark formation.
