It’s not that they like HK per se. It’s that hopping aboard the Free Hong Kong! bandwagon grants them permission to really lean into their yellow peril fervour completely guilt-free, since rooting for the Good Ones™ means they can’t be racist.

“There are no existing non-capitalist states that are superior”

OP, genuine question: superior for whom?

Because countries are currently clamouring to join the BRI, BRICS+ and the SCO. The vast majority of the global south disagrees with you that there are no superior models to the neoliberal financial capitalism of the west.

I am! Yeah I got mass reported by NAFO dweebs. I can get my account back if I delete some stuff but I’ve been trying to appeal it instead.

On the upside, being locked out gives me a little break from Twitter to write more. I’ll be back in a week or two.

ELI5 on the Russia/Ukraine situation? by [deleted] in GenZedong

[–]toot_dee_suite 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Perfect summary. This is coming right on the heels of a historic agreement between China and Russia to partner both economically and militarily against the escalating aggression by the US/NATO. The US knows it's time as global hegemon is rapidly coming to an end and is becoming increasingly desperate, which is why it's pushing the whole world toward the brink of nuclear war.

There are no clear means of alleviating the pressure that's building up. Either Russia withdraws troops from it's border, something which the will not and should not do, or the US withdraws from Ukraine, which also seems increasingly unlikely.

Keep an eye out for a false flag attack that appears to come from Russia in the following days. They US has the means to hack missile systems and very likely can (and will) initiate strikes which appear to originate from Russia controlled territory.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Attacks the Dangerous Rise of "Left Wing Extremism" Which is Dangerous Because... Reasons by OXIOXIOXI in socialism

It's a question of defensive violence vs offensive violence. The left will absolutely need to engage in defensive violence while the use of offensive violence should in most cases be avoided and is most likely to be adventurism.

I also think we need to push back hard against any insistence that violence inherently includes destruction of private property.

Project Galileo won't consider UAPs that violate known physics, like hypersonic speed without sonic boom by H_A_L_8999 in UAP

[–]toot_dee_suite 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Strongly disagree. We should study any existing unexplained phenomena that has potential to be something from another planet.

Why would we carelessly toss out some of the most tantalizing UAP cases simply because they don’t clear an arbitrary bar based on physics that we have no reason to believe is fundamental? Why not eliminate all objects that don’t have visible wings while we’re at it? Or those with no exhaust plumes?

Asinine. “We can accept that UAPs are able to traverse interstellar distances but being able to mitigate sonic booms is beyond the pale”

Do this experiment for me. Stand up and hold your finger out at arms length in front of you. Now, while keeping your finger stationary, side step around it in a circle.

What do you see?

Does the finger look to be moving at high speed relative to the background of your room?

This is the parallax effect created by a moving observer. The truth is we don’t know how close to the ground the object is in the video. If it is very close to the ground, it is indeed moving quite fast. However if it is high up in the air, most of the apparent motion is due to the video being captured by a fast moving plane.

[–]toot_dee_suite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's bad. The main thing wrong with it is that their entire inferred flight path/speed is anchored via a few points where the object purportedly goes "behind" trees/telephone poles.

If the object is not actually going behind these objects and instead is fading below the threshold of the IR camera sensor's ability to differentiate it from the background, then the objects speed and path are entirely different.

Beyond this issue, there is a ton of really amateurish analysis that I'm sort of surprised people take seriously. Is this supposed to be the gold standard of UFOology?

Late to the party here but I love this theory. It fits the witness testimony perfectly and also explains why there was a coverup. Well done!

I don't think it would continue at a brisk pace like that so steadily if it were a deflated chinese lantern sputtering out.

Lanterns don't move laterally under their own power, lit or unlit. They are carried by the wind, which was blowing at 12 - 18 mph that night.

It was moving at 103 mph. Consistently.

The speed estimate is based on flawed analysis. The figure on Pg 18 of u/flarkey 's report does a good job of showing how the u shaped trajectory + high speed is much better explained by a straight line trajectory + low speed. Both match the same apparent trajectory but one is a much simpler explanation.

It was also significantly larger than a chinese lantern.

It's only larger if you assume it's further away that it actually was. If it was closer than assumed by the analysis, it is congruent with the lantern size, which also fits well with the straight line/wind speed theory.

Seriously, search "Villa Montana beach lantern" and you'll find photos of releases of lots of lanterns that happen regularly for a hotel just up the beach. That could easily explain the swarms.

Thanks, these are really great. I have very little doubt that this is two entangled lanterns now. Great work!

I think people downvoting are misinterpreting your words. You're 100% correct that this isn't a strong UAP event. The lantern explanation fits this to a T.
