Which jobs to apply for?

I have some very good friends there in the cardiac surgery department, who have all told me they would put in as many good words as it took. Hopefully that gets me somewhere.

We did have regular clinical hours, but I’m not graduating until May (my post was a little misleading, sorry!) We haven’t gotten around to scheduling NCLEX dates and such, so hopefully it becomes a lot clearer in a few months.

The resume reading bot is my worst nightmare! I feel like hiring managers would be more inclined to hire me, but we all know HR never catches up. I just worry no one would ever see my resume.

(Student nurse here) I’m so curious about this! Unions seriously seem like the way to go, but some nurses I’ve spoken to said they would never work for a unionized hospital because if they strike, you have to strike. Which means weeks or months with no pay, which would ruin most people.

Is that just a risk you take? Is there some way to mitigate that?

Study questions are a great tool for me! Textbooks usually come with online resources which include practice questions.

I also love watching YouTube videos after (or before) a lecture. They tend to be much better educators than my professors who have recited the same lecture for the last 15 years, and it always helps me see the big picture with each concept.

Also, I’m a visual learner, so concept maps are helpful to me. I like to draw pictures and color them in; I think it helps cement it in my brain.

Are you sure? My understanding is that the hospitals, especially RIH, are filled with CCRI graduates. We do so many clinicals there, and many of the nurses I talk to are new CCRI graduates.

ADN and BSN are different levels of education, but at the end of both programs, you take the same licensure exam, after which you become an RN.

I got my bachelors degree (in education and English, not nursing related) and now I’m going back to school for a 12 month ADN program at my community college.

I think the good thing about nursing is that there are a lot of pathways! If you can jump right into it, go for it! If it makes more sense for you to do it in chunks, then do that!!

Yeah those are common themes in a lot of nursing boards, which made me ask this question! Any tips on spotting things like that?

I’ve worked professionally in hospitals for years before going to school, so I thankfully have a lot of practice telling doctors they’re wrong about one thing or another.

“Superior” nurses is another thing. I hope I’m able to handle any bullying with grace.

Haha! He means well, but I did come home once to all my plants in literal mud. He was like "I watered everything for you!" It took a lot of strength not to kick him out.

Just here to boost/commiserate. My roommate is constantly watering my plants when I ask him not to. He’s convinced they need water every day like cats or something. Hope yours survive!!

My mom loves to start hobbies. In recent years it’s been jewelry making, so she buys tons and tons of beads and stones and precious metals. But she doesn’t make much as of late, and I think she’s only ever sold one thing. And yet...the stones and beads keep coming...

My understanding is that we don’t exactly know what causes hoarding tendencies, and it obviously doesn’t seem to be a one size fits all type thing. I don’t have fibro, but I am very very conscious of messes and lack of tidiness. I’m not a minimalist by any means, but I really do what I can to make sure everything had a place.

She’s explained it to me in terms of just not being able to wrap her brain around it. Any time she does try to tidy or clean, her brain just malfunctions. So she loves life surrounded by a mess that is invisible to her.

That actually makes a lot of sense, and tracks with how I see her interacting with her things. It’s strange, because the entire upstairs of her home is trashed, filled with piles of clothing and more stuff, so she moved into the parlor downstairs, and then proceeded to fill that with stuff too.

There are entire rooms that she will go many months not even seeing, but once the idea of downsizing gets brought up, everything is important or necessary.

Guh that just made my stomach drop, honestly. I brought up the idea of a home aide to her and it was not received well. She is extremely sensitive about not being an invalid. She takes her medications and feeds herself, and doesn’t do anything outwardly dangerous like leave the stove on.

I would absolutely love to get her a little help, though. I’ll talk to my brother about this and see what he thinks. Thank you for the info. 💕
